Hello, Allison! Our understanding is that the unpardonable sin is one where you unashamedly and intentionaly fight against the work of God. This is someone who deliberately fights against the light of God and His Word and His ways and has clearly fought against the work of God in their own hearts. There comes a point when the Holy Spirit stops working on a person's heart. You never know when it will be the last time, but He will stop. This, we believe, is the unpardonable sin. God is an unbelievably merciful and gracious God. We can't begin to comprehend how sinful we truly are. Our hearts our full of deceits and hatred and idolatry and lust. All of these things the Lord hates and must judge. This is why we all belong in Hell for eternity. God, being the righteous, good, and just God that He is, must punish all sin. Yet, He loves us so much that this justice and wrath was poured out onto His own Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross so that we could be forgiven. With Christ's death, God's justice is satisfied, and He can now allow us to walk away free and justified if we come to Him in humilty and repentance to receive this forgiveness. He forgives all sin, past, present, and future, and He forgets after He forgives. To reject this amount of love and fight against the attempts of God to draw you unto Himself is the unpardonable sin. Here's an excerpt from the Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible by David Brown: Matthew 12:31b-32 - In Mark the language is awfully strong, “hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation” (Mark 3:20) - or rather, according to what appears to be the preferable though very unusual reading, “in danger of eternal guilt” - a guilt which he will underlie for ever. Mark has the important addition (Mark 3:30), “Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.” (See on Matthew 10:25). What, then, is this sin against the Holy Ghost - the unpardonable sin? One thing is clear: Its unpardonableness cannot arise from anything in the nature of sin itself; for that would be a naked contradiction to the emphatic declaration of Matthew 12:31, that all manner of sin is pardonable. And what is this but the fundamental truth of the Gospel? (See Acts 13:38, Acts 13:39; Romans 3:22, Romans 3:24; 1 John 1:7, etc.). Then, again when it is said (Matthew 12:32), that to speak against or blaspheme the Son of man is pardonable, but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is not pardonable, it is not to be conceived that this arises from any greater sanctity in the one blessed Person than the other. These remarks so narrow the question that the true sense of our Lord‘s words seem to disclose themselves at once. It is a contrast between slandering “the Son of man” in His veiled condition and unfinished work - which might be done “ignorantly, in unbelief” (1 Timothy 1:13), and slandering the same blessed Person after the blaze of glory which the Holy Ghost was soon to throw around His claims, and in the full knowledge of all that. This would be to slander Him with eyes open, or to do it “presumptuously.” To blaspheme Christ in the former condition - when even the apostles stumbled at many things - left them still open to conviction on fuller light: but to blaspheme Him in the latter condition would be to hate the light the clearer it became, and resolutely to shut it out; which, of course, precludes salvation. The Pharisees had not as yet done this; but in charging Jesus with being in league with hell they were displaying beforehand a malignant determination to shut their eyes to all evidence, and so, bordering upon, and in spirit committing, the unpardonable sin.

Hi, Robert! Thank you for your service. We each have to ask God for wisdom and do what is best in the situations that we find ourselves in. Many today are satisfied with taking advantage of others, whether that's our government or friends or family. God has instead called us to work to support ourselves, our families, and to be able to give to others through the church, global missions, or personally. Because we live in a sin-cursed world, though, life happens, and we have to respond in God's wisdom to the best of our ability. Sometimes, we do need others' help for a time until we can support ourselves, unless we physically can't. God knows we live in an imperfect world. That is why He instituted the family, first, then the church, then government. These institutions are there, in part, to support others in times of need. It is okay for someone to depend on others financially when it's absolutely necessary. However, working for our finances isn't the only way we work. Even in our careers, we aren't there just to make money; we are called to be a blessing and a spiritual leader to others. This job never goes away. Your physical ability is limited, but there are still ways for you to lead others to Christ and to be a blessing to them. Your friends and your family need you. If you are still breathing, there is still a work that God has for you to do. The work isn't limited by your physical ability. It's only altered, and it ends when God calls us home.
