Communities affected by extreme poverty have to sacrifice their agency in service of these objectives. While alleviation of poverty is evaluated and successes are claimed, the mid to long term damage of this interventionist model to poor communities at the regional, national, village and even family level is not assessed or shared. For Aid to be relevant and appropriate the agenda has to be set, and updated in real time, by the people the aid programme claims to be centred around, ie not the British taxpayer.
