Still like watching this groovy vid. You've had that snare for awhile, I think I've seen it in recent vids. Appreciate the life long musician thing, I certainly hope it's serving you well. I enjoying learning stuff from you. Thank you Redeye.

Wow, what a great video! These indeed are among my favorite drums, and truth be told-an all around perfect wood species. We only made a handful of these kits with these finishes, and this one was in fact in my home for some time. Our wood supplier was the same one that supplied the wood for the drums you mentioned. Kudos to you for having the imagination and thoughtfulness to look into our company. Funny thing is, my love of building drums came from a single Ludwig Standard, green strata kit I bought on eBay for $300. This was before any gen z's were born yet. There was not a lot of people clamoring for old, funky out of round drum shells. Ludwig standards were built from b-stock, factory second shells. Typically, they would have flat spots, bad edges, and were sometimes made entirely from segments of plywood. They were sprayed with gray speckled paint, and different hardware and lugs were used. Like all things drums, they wanted to tap a certain market that had less money, the students. The actual weight of the wood, and the weight of the metal parts was exactly the same, so in essence they cost the same to produce, it just allowed them to be sloppy. In the minds of drummers, these were cheaper drums and therefore not collectible. I discovered that re-edging these very flawed drums - which was absolutely necessary, they sounded better than my regular Ludwig 3-plys. Way better. This was just another of the educational topics that got me understanding the realities of drum building versus the stories. Most drum makers know that a good edge will make any DRUM sound good. But that would end everyone's endless quest for buying drums every few years, so the industry must invent new problems to solve! That's when the whole wood conversation starts. Historically, most companies build drums from whatever it wood is local. Asians: Luan, Birch Poplar. European: Birch, beech. a certain US drum maker, in order to compete, needed to disparage the Asians and reinvent the American DRUM manufacturing market, enter the new Maple Drums. For years Maple was heralded as the best wood. This company even went so far as to make Birch drums, and deliberately priced them lower to create a perception of inferiority. What we all know now (or should know), is that there is no voodoo. If Drums are crafted well they all sound good. The materials to build a drum set range anywhere from $60-$200. That's all in-all the wood, all the steel all the diecast. it doesn't matter if you sell that drum set for $399, or $3999. It's virtually the same cost bottom line to build it. This is the saddest things about making drums. People do not believe or even want to know anything truthful. With anything else you would buy, you would be interested about the truth. If someone came and said I have a $10,000 air conditioning system, and somebody else said I have the same one for $1500 - you might be receptive to this. Particularly if they had the same warranty and functioned exactly the same. This was something we thought we would ignite in the imagination of drummers. Sadly, only a small fraction of drummers know about our drums. But for those who know? They are the lucky ones! Enjoy those drums, they are one in 1 million. You will see the comments that may follow mine. Debating what I say, or challenging the facts. I personally have spent millions of dollars on plywood, steel, diecast, and paint. my suppliers are the same that supply all the major manufacturers. As low as my prices are to build Drums, theirs are even lower. In business there are good reasons for this. There are probably good reasons for this in the musical instrument industry-It has to support a lot of people that work in it. My thing is, I don't want to egregiously overcharge a struggling musician. this is how I will do it always.

2024 I'm not sure if this model is still current, I believe it was replaced with the Q2N4K. If that is the case, how much or what issues are relevant today, that are discussed in this video. I'm shopping for a recorder, for live band rehearsal recordings?

Ideally I would own both. The Supraphonic here has just a little more ring, which you can damp out if it doesn't fit. It's very subtle, though, and if you didn't tell me that a Supra and an Acrolite were the two drums here, I'd have a very hard time distinguishing them.

Thanks for stating that your pattern is an adaptation of how it’s supposed to be played. You’ll get a better slap if you strike downwards and if you do not cup your hand so much. And it doesn’t have to be hard if you whip the hand properly, good technique doesn’t necessitate force. And lastly, even though people refer to the left hand movement as “heel-toe”, you do not strike with the “heel”, it’s a “palm” strike and rather easy to learn, just needs practiced.
