@@BooksnBarbies Thanks! 😊 Yeah faux leather is always so cumbersome to keep pristine and strong. But I’ve learned that you can delay the disintegration by putting the garment in a humid-free environment. Personally, I put my dolls wearing faux leather near a dehumidifier or desiccants and they really help delay the garment from destroying itself. I’m glad you like the soft jazz music! It’s actually from KZbin’s creator studio and you can download it here for free. They’re also royalty-free so you can use them in videos without any penalties. The one I’m using here on this video is called “Walk Through the Park.”

I found her once on Shopee for an OK price, but I hesitated, and someone else got her so she’s gone now. 😭 But I swear I won’t give up on her! But just so you know, Shopee is only occasionally good. The times I’ve been lucky there are few and far between. For the most part, Barbie products sold there are terrible. A Barbie Looks doll sold there is $50-60 each. A Barbie Fashionista is $20-40 a pop. Big yikes! 😬 Luckily Amazon exists and if I buy them in bulk, I save up on shipping. But yeah I would never sing Shopee’s praises if I were you. 😅

I actually bought her on Amazon a few months back’cause I saw this one for sale for only $25, and I simply couldn’t resist! I quite like the aesthetic of the HBC brand. It’s a bit simple, but very bold and eye-catching. Such a shame most of their items are for colder weather. If the Philippines freezes over, I’ll definitely be buying a few pieces. 🤭 And I’m glad you like the little gag I inserted in the vid. Realistically, I don’t have a good use for the paddle, so keeping pesky Kens away is the only usage I could imagine for this. 🤪

@ don’t feel bad about not finding the 1996 doll, because I never would have found her if it wasn’t for the Canadian eBay store 🥴 I couldn’t find any info on the dolls ANYWHERE else and I’m the type that will search forever to find info 😄 It’s so cool that you got your doll at a fantastic price, because that’s exactly how I find mine too 😁 I refuse to pay insane prices…… unless I have to 😶 I hope you can get the others someday so you can have all of them lined on a shelf together 🤩 And btw, feel free to call me Donna 😉 I know my page here doesn’t show it in any way, but it’s definitely on my IG page, which one day I’ll have the courage to post my dolls on, I’m just really shy about it right now 😌

I found a FOURTH HBC Barbie. 😩 This time it’s from 1995 and it’s called the ‘Governor’s Ball Barbie’. I could have put all of this info in the video if this info was easier to find. Sigh, I’ll just add in corrections in the description, I guess. 😅

But there are so few Ken releases this year and most of them aren’t very good. 😔 I’ve given up on relying on Mattel for good new Ken releases and I’ll probably just get older Ken releases instead. I am so starved for male dolls in my collection, like I am *THIS* close to buying boy dolls from Integrity…but then I remember they cost $300 overall if I factor in shipping costs and taxes, so I quickly shoot down that idea. 😅 And I’m glad you agree with my points here. While I do prefer a Ken, if they’re going to go for a genderbent Barbie, then they need to do it right. It would have been nice if she was in a female Mariachi outfit, but they also didn’t do that here , so that makes me even more frustrated, honestly. 😭 Still though, I do love her. They can dress Odile in a trash bag, and I’ll probably still get her. 😅 And you’re right, the hair actually looks pretty good if you let it down. Personally I’m thinking of getting one that I can boil-wash and customize. But of course, I have to wait until she’s in stock again.

@ I’m looking into the older Ken releases too so I can get some handsome models 😊 and as much as I love the looks of IT male dolls, I doubt I’ll ever get one at those prices either 🫤 I’ll waste money on a lot of things, but I’m just not prepared to spend it on those dolls right now 😑 Not with the way my bank account is set up 😆 Otherwise, I think my collection is starting out pretty good 😌

I don’t think I’ll be getting more of them-can you imagine, the amount of shelf space I would need to house 2 dozen dolls in ball gowns?! Maybe it’s for the best 😅 But outside of the Princess collection, there are other DOTW that I want. I know right, unfortunately Mattel didn’t really care much about hair diversity during this time period. 😕 you have no idea the LENGTHS I had to go through to give my dolls textured hair. I ruined a lot of dolls from the experience, but I also learned a whole lot about doll hairstyling. 😆 But gladly attitudes changed eventually and I’m glad we see the diversity we see today. While Barbie still has problems nowadays, at the very least she’s doing diversity better than she ever did before

@@asherbarbara9 I totally understand that struggle with giving your dolls a little bit of textured hair 😁 I still do it today when I don’t feel the hair she has is right for her 🙃 My husband just smiles and says “That’s nice” and then tells me I can’t buy any more dolls 😆 when he knows he’s the one texting me pics of dolls to make sure I don’t already have her before he buys me another one he found on sale 🤪 He spoils me way too much 😊 But thankfully, like you said, we have a few more options now, and a little less stress when styling our dolls for their photo shoots 😉

@@madamplatypus313 Oh I agree with this 100%. 😊 There are some people in the doll community that like to complain for the sake of complaining. Most of these people only ever purchase playline dolls and could never even purchase anything collector even if they wanted to. So they nitpick and sour-grape the things that they can’t have. While yes there are some DOTW releases that might warrant criticism here and there, for the most part DOTW has done more good than harm. Unfortunately, it’s easy to pick on DOTW because it represents nations and cultures so things like that can easily be sensitive. A lot of the criticisms of DOTW are honestly just fake outrage, from my experience. Complaining for the sake of complaining, as I’ve said. Which is why I usually pick and choose the collectors and accounts I interact with. I’m very much a pariah in the doll community, and I don’t really mind that. I’m content just staying in my little corner of the internet than listen to whiny, entitled so-called ‘collectors.’

I couldn’t believe I found a good deal for this set…on Amazon of all places. Plus free shipping! 🥹 I agree, the production quality during this time period was so incredible. Modern collector dolls could never! I don’t appreciate the lack of closures though. 😅 If I had any sewing talent I’d totally give them new closures myself. Oh and I’m glad you noticed the backdrop! I just discovered these and I love them. 😆 It moves too if you have a fan nearby, but sadly I couldn’t turn the fan on for most of the video because it gets picked up by my audio. They come in a lot of different colors, textures, and shapes, so MAYBE you’ll see me use another one of these in the near future… 😉

@@anthonytin9973 Oh actually there is a modern version of the Tango Ken 😃 and it debuted on Barbie Basics #16. It’s been used on a couple of dolls like the green-haired BMR1959 Ken, King of the Crystal Cave, as well as some of the Twilight Kens, though overall he’s still very rarely used. The updated version is handsome too, but it doesn’t have the same charm as this one with the old neck joint.
