Our standard Breville 800xl served us well but finally gave it up after many years of use. I had decided to look for something smaller, so over the past week, I have spent hours on the web looking at different ones of different sizes and features along with their ratings and reviews. I checked out a few brands at local retailers, but they all fell short of my quality expectations I was use to. I'm usually not an indecisive person and the idea of going smaller became an obstacle. This morning with my cup of coffee sidekick, I started back at it and happened upon this Deep Dive review which I thought may be worth a watch. IT WAS!!! "Thank You Liz" for your straight up thorough demo review of the Breville 900BSS. Forget smaller....this one makes more sense in the long run and has so many more exciting features than my first Breville did. My search is over!

I'm so glad you found this helpful! I agree, as tempting as smaller may be, it usually doesn't pay off in the long run!

Can you can this like you can regular butter? No utubes on this
@SimpleItalianCooking
@SimpleItalianCooking 2 ай бұрын
Yes. We often do. I'm sure for some recipes it may be better to use all butter - like a coconut white cake for example. But in general, yes you use it like regular butter - spread it, melt it, mix it, etc. Hope that helps.

Very detailed review! I have been watching this model for many months, and finally ordered one this week. My main purpose was to "replace" the use of my oven during the hot summer months and for a nice sized air fryer. My oven has an air fry function, but it takes almost as long as conventional baking because of the size. Another selling point was the ability to fit full size baking pans. Because of all these points, the price seemed fair to me... $399 at the time of this comment. I can't wait for delivery - your video reassured me that i made the right choice!

@SimpleItalianCooking

For an Italian sub I'd stick with the olive oil, no butter personally. But I love the mixture on toast and in cooking!

I'm thinking about getting one of these, but if I do I won't be able to justify getting a pop-up toaster as well as I've basically got no counterspace/storage in my kitchen. I like the versatility of this appliance but my partner and I are concerned about using this for toast in the morning. can you share your experience for this usecase? (ie how long it takes to toast 2-4 store-bought slices to golden brown on both sides, and any other comments you might have).
@SimpleItalianCooking
@SimpleItalianCooking 2 ай бұрын
It takes longer to toast in the Breville than it does for a pop up toaster. That was one thing I noticed right away. I believe it takes about 4-6 minutes for a few pieces of toast to be a golden brown but it really depends on how toasted you like it.

Great company. My favorite seed is the Franchi Bean Bobis A Grano Nero. Sweet, tender, stringless and always a prolific crop. Switched to this several years ago when the Kentucky Blue Lake pole beans started becoming flat and unpleasant. Trying the Santa Ana also this year. All seeds have come up, so looking forward to the crops!

as a chef I never used a machine to make my pasta but I am interested in this machine, why do you not use eggs in your recipe? or you leave as an option? Eggs I believe are important to great taste and pasta color as well as texture.
@SimpleItalianCooking
@SimpleItalianCooking 3 ай бұрын
You can use eggs with the machine but I don't think you need to. It doesn't alter the taste much surprisingly - and I can't really give a specific reason why. It does come with recipes for eggs and without. I would have thought my Sicilian in laws would prefer the result with eggs, but they liked it without. Said it reminds them of how they had it in Sicily. However, when I make handmade pasta without the machine, I notice a bigger lack of flavor without the eggs than when using the machine. Maybe it's a texture thing as the Philips produces a much thicker noodle than a regular hand crank machine.

@SimpleItalianCooking
@SimpleItalianCooking 4 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by "normal" one, but the a wheat pasta recipe (the first one listed) it's 250g of all purpose flour and 95g: 1egg+water. For durum pasta (my favorite) is 200g semolina; 50g all pupose flour; and 95 g (1 egg+water). If you want durum "noodle" then omit the egg and just use 90g of water. I hope that helps!!

Be sure that you dab the slices with paper towels to make sure that they are dry before the flour. And don't put them on paper towels they will get soggy, put them on a cooling rack that is on a paper towel lined cookie sheet to drain. If your oil is hot enough there shouldn't be a lot of oil to drain anyway.
@SimpleItalianCooking
@SimpleItalianCooking 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the additional tips! I haven't found an issue with the paper towels making them soggy though, they stay crispy for me!

Did you make aglio e olio or just a garlic oil? One of my favorites regardless!!! If ya’ll have it your pantry and want to level this up, add crushed red pepper to the oil when you fry the garlic, and then finish with chopped parsley, parm, and lemon zest.
