There was one way gnarlier in a south suburb of Chicago, Crestwood, that my crew skated in the late 90's.

I skated it a few times mid 90s. It was in terrible condition back then. I remember switching to way bigger wheels than normal just to skate that rough concrete...

I've always been intrigued with skate history/roots. I appreciate all the work and research you've done on this spot. From what I can remember old English/Scottish concrete like Romford and Southsea were built 1978. Stevenage, Harrow, Meanwhile2, Meanwhile Gardens and Stockwell Road 1979 - '81...... I Skated them all 1988 - '91 except Rom and Stevenage.

I spent a bunch of summers as a kid in Brooklyn. I remember the first time I went in the late 80’s and it took weeks for me to figure out where the place was. I had no clue because I’d only heard about it. I never saw any skaters anywhere and Brooklyn is huge. Finally I met a kid who told me where it was. Then it took a while to get my dad to let me get a cab there by myself.

First time skating here was in 1999. Jennifer Love Hewitt was filming for her TV show called "Time of your Life" and the crew was doing shots on the Bridge. They asked me to be an extra for the show and to skate into her as she would jump out of the way... She didn't move, I crashed into her, and the footage was never released. So not only did I get to skate the banks for the first time, I touched my first pair of boobies on that glorious day. The banks truly are a magical place.

It's a shame that this park isn't being preserved and keeps getting burried by the current land owner whenever anyone clears it out, around 2007-08 the big bowl was partially cleared out briefly. From what I've heard most of the park is still intact, just burried. I get not wanting liabilities for injuries but why doesn't the current owner just let people sign a waiver to skate it or ride bikes there?

@@theskateboardingcrucible I just think it really sucks that there isn't much of a effort to preserve the remaining 70s skateparks that are still intact but buried. I didn't grow up in the 70s and 80s but I've always been fascinated by the older skateparks and their unique designs and I think instead of neglecting them they should be preserved since they are a important part of both skateboarding and bmx history. I just caught the episode you linked to of the 70s skatepark in Idaho, I actually just found out about that park a couple months ago when I was searching for more older parks that might be intact. With a little work that park could easily be fixed up but it was great to hear some of the history of the park. Have you heard of The Turf skatepark in Wisconsin? It was recently dug up and the city it's in is in the process of restoring the original bowls to reopen it. That's at least one formerly burried 70s skatepark that is getting preserved. They are going to keep the original bowls and make some new additions next to the park.

Love your channel bro! Keep up the good work In the '90s early '90s us skaters pushed for what all the kids take for granted today all the skate parks that we would have killed for. And we're literally getting our skateboards stolen from police for skating on commercial /private property Viva La skate!

There is actually some great footage of people skating here in a couple videos. Omar Salazar does an insane line here in his Mind Field part. Also Randy Ploesser bluntslides it, but I can't remember which video its in. The Salazar line is worth finding though. Its bananas.

@theskateboardingcrucible you could get a generator with a submersible pump to drain the water from it. We have been doing diy repairs to our park for decades. We sell shirts and stickers to pay for the repairs ourselves. Since the county wants nothing to do with it.

hey man. this isn’t a spot you could just pull up and skate anytime any day. You gotta skate here at specific times. Before going here, do some more research. Get to know the locals, and follow their ways. I saw that you guys added a pin to the spot so I thought it’s very important for me to mention. Don’t want this epic spot to get completely shut down. PS: this park was made for rollerskating way back in the day
@theskateboardingcrucible
@theskateboardingcrucible Ай бұрын
I thought it was off limits pretty much all the time? Also why would the owners keep it rotting if they still allowed people to skate it? Looks like the place keeps deteriorating as the years pass. I don’t think adding an already existing map online is going to hurt the place, considering Thrasher turns up last year and lights a fire in the centre of the bowl scorching a hole into the thing, broadcasting that to their millions of followers, without retaliation . Thanks for the roller skating information 🙏

It's amazing when places build crazy obstacles that are different from any other skatepark ever made. I'm all for usable skateparks catering to all skill levels but I think as a designer you have to come up with one wacky thing in your park that just doesn't exist anywhere else in the world. Like the first capsule or doorway or the 105' long flatbar or the volcano with the top that rotates. Make your park a global destination.
