I wonder if this wasn't acually in the script, maybe Michael Keaton was caught off guard with what he was being served, so Michael Gough had to explain what it was, so Michael Keaton just resumed the scene as if the short misunderstanding didn't happen, and Tim Burton loved the small moments and desided to put it in the film This is all just my guess

I watched Batman Returns so many times as a kid. I had no idea what Alfred said when he labeled the dish. In the early 90’s, my mom used to get me rice pudding pretty often, which it’s a very delicious cold Mexican desert (my mom is from Mexico). I always thought that dish is rice pudding or something similar to it. I’m now 35, I’m still curious to try this soup.
