No its not because of islamic invasion it is because every culture has different rituals

You see those long gold chains hanging from ears of KP ladies. That resembles our Mangal sutra . Gold Chain (Known as Ath in Kashmiri) is from Girls side and that gold ornament hanging from that chain is from (Boys side). so the union is complete.

Love how the bridal rituals in the mandap are a way of putting the bride at a pedestal. They walk both hand in hand and stepping on the money as she is the laxmi.
