Hi there I have a fiat ducato 1989 2.0 petrol (motorhome) It starts fine but really doesn't have power in motorway it struggles to go up to 60 m/h and if its hilly will start slowing down fast, In some steep hills i have to go on first gear, Any idea why its this? Just old age or may be some other issues? I would appreciate any advice

Our fuel pump has been replaced but it still won't start, is there a metal rod in the hose that pressed the fuel pump to suck the petrol up? Sorry for dumb question, I'm a novice trying to get my van back on the road . Any ideas would be very welcome

Hello thanks for the effort in sharing your work. I have had pump issues so bought anew mechanical pump then wondered what the return pipe did and saw it was connected to a T section on the feed to the carb , it had a tiny hole which was in the T joint which the return connects too Further investigations people said they just disconnect the return and block it Have you any thoughts on the function of the the return and did yours have the original T jointer ?

It would have been nice if you had of included the make and type of both pump and inertia switch, also place of purchase. Nice little video thank you.

Years ago I fitted one of those cheap ebay pumps to my 89 ducato motorhome to fix the fuel loss issue when standing for weeks.. took it out on motorway and couldn't get the van up to speed like it was not getting enough fuel so reinstated the mechanical pump and power returned and made sure to turn it over every week.. still have the van but for one reason and another it has been stood neglected for 18 months .. now it starts first time but as soon as is engine is hot and fan kicking in it stalls.. starts again on the key but a minute later will just stall again... the mechanical pump is subject to the heat of the engine block so looking like the old fuel pump to me .. hence how i found this.. great vid mate

These old vans seem to suffer with fuel issues in general! I fitted a new mechanical pump when I got the van, it was an cheaper aftermarket one so probably didn’t help! The van kept cutting out when I got it so I rebuilt the carb to find out the previous owner had attempted to do it in the past with a cornflakes packet as gaskets! They had punches through leaving fluffy holes on all the bypass jets etc!! So after I installed the new gasket set and diaphragm etc she ran better. Then our first outing out she ran out of fuel at half a tank! After much investigation it turned out the fuel tank was full of silt to the point it was blocking the port into the pickup chamber at half a tank!! Replaced the fuel tank and all the pipelines. So pretty much now the whole fuel system is new (ideal for the new E10 fuel that eats old rubber!) still had a bit of hesitation under acceleration though which the electric fuels pump seems to have cured even at higher speeds. I plan to carry a spare though just in case!! Thanks for watching Paul

Congratulations! I'm about to fit what looks like the same (or very similar) pump onto our 1994 Avalon. The collision cutoff is a great idea - thanks. How much do these pumps draw - did you need a separate fuse or could you not have just taken a feed from one of the 'general purpose' fuses (9, 10, 12)?

Hi Ian, Highly recommended it transformed the driving of this one! Not sure about the amperage draw assume it is fairy low, its only a low pressure pump (3psi I think so it doesn’t overwhelm the floats in the carb) I put it on a switched feed so pretty much only runs with the engine, I did fit the switch though in case I ever wanted to have the ignition on for any length of time without the engine running. You could use any fuse feed (as long as it is only alive with the ignition and not all the time) I had a spare holder in the Talbot so fed it with a switched live and used a 10 Amp fuse (seemed what was advised on a Google search) if you struggle to find a spare fuse way you could use an inline fuse holder with a 10 fuse in it? Highly recommend the fuel cut-off switch in case of a collision though 👍

A couple of things I forgot to mention in the video just in case you are planning to fit one of these heaters. They use a lot of power in the initial start up (heater plug I assume) anyway our batteries were quite old and we thought we would have to replace them fairly soon - however, the heater kept failing on low voltage on both batteries (tried both!) so ended up having to buy to new ones!! 😬🙄 runs a treat now though, I decided to hook it up to the leisure battery as it’s much higher Amp hour. Cheers Paul 😃

They are much more switched on than they let on! 😂 He prefers the front seat at the moment, hopefully I haven’t wasted my time!? I bet it ends up full of pet products rather than Bobby 😂🤣
