Fantastic stuff reg. I was only just getting into chasing sambar in 04 and was dreaming of what you were living! I must admit my niche is walking them up. There is alot more info on how to chase them now but its thanks to trail blazers like yourself.

Hi James, we were virtually camping where the deer lived 35 years ago. My love for photography gave me a different mindset to the conventional stalking methods. I needed to get close and personal to the deer to get those unique photographs and footage. Most hunters misunderstand the deer! When you are dealing with an animal that has exceptional hearing, smell, and invasive skills. They (deer) will beat you 99% of the time under fair chase pursuit. Most hunters today understand how to read deer sign, knowledge on deers movement, and the best periods to hunt. There's sh-t loads of information on media forums and magazines. But nothing is spoken about how to THINK LIKE A DEER. I'm trying my best to inform new hunters through my videos, showing them the vulnerabilities of the deer once you figure them out? Today, l still enjoy spending quality time with the deer, but it's not my primary objective when l go bush. Cheers Reggie

I know the feeling mate. Last year I was really trying to hunt this amazing stag with my bow that I have let go over the years, unfortunately I think the long bomb thermal shooters may of got him. Pretty sad really, but I still have my special one on the wall that I look at every day too.

@reggordon4982
@reggordon4982 Ай бұрын
Hi Eddie, Yeah, source as much good information as you can. When l first started hunting, it was difficult to find a person or persons who had similar ethics to hunt the deer under fair pursuit. Perhaps l didn't emphasise too much to hunt seriously because l played golf with my son over the spring and summer months. So l only concentrated on my Sambar hunting during the autumn and winter periods. Perhaps by the 1990s l was having some success with the rifle and by 2000 my interests in photography was my priority. Naturally, l perfer to stalk the sambar one on one because l find it more rewarding and challenging. Now l love spending quality time around the campfire with good mates.

Fantastic Reg. Great insight to what I feel hunting should be about. I have started my hunting trip late in life and have found for me personally it's not about getting a deer on the deck, it's so much more than that. A great listen, thank you. You mentioned the use of thermals, I feel they greatly diminish the entire exercise and under values the deer itself. IMO only.
@reggordon4982
@reggordon4982 Ай бұрын
Hi Qeull, Your comments are much appreciated! I'm afraid the thermal imaging devices are here to stay, and you will never stop those people who don't get the connection or understand primal instincts about hunting. The challenges of using their ability and skills to actually hunt goes out the window. Yes it an unfair advantage to be able to detect any animal with any thermal imaging. These electronic devices are sinister and illegal to use whilst under fair chase. Anyhow there's a few people out there that are more interested in hunting these majestic creatures for their ability to evade hunters, myself included. Thanks Reggie
