I feel like I'd definitely be leaning towards FL Studio IF it had looper like Ableton :(

If you're a hobby producer, don't underestimate the free updates. I bought FL many years ago and only occasionally have time to make a track because of adult life, but I always get the latest version by default. If you're a professional and/or do live performances, then Ableton probably makes more sense.

I think Patcher in FL Studio is a monstruously good tool for sound design and mastering, it allows you to write long comprehensive processing steps in a visual manner, essentially allows you to create custom generators and effect plugins

Automation in fl studio sucks. The playlist view in fl gets super cluttered and disorganized unless you proactively try to organize everything. I hate how the mixer and channel works in it. The sampler sucks as well. Whereas Ableton just feels and uses like a more serious DAW and does good in everything.

I’m sorry but FL Studio is garbage and that’s coming from someone that uses it. Worst mistake I’ve made purchasing FL over Ableton. Plug-in rack and everything about mixing, processing is simply fucking dreadful.

thanks for this and your ableton vs FL video. I taught myself FL years and years ago as a kid and that really debuffed my brain trying to teach myself ableton as an adult

I am completely new to all of that never even heard of DAW before today. And for me sadly it seems like FL Studio due to the lifetime updates because depending on how often Ableton releases something new, if I have to spend hundreds of dollars every single damn time its just financially stupid to me. But thank you so much for the neutral video and introducing these things to me

Just a note, you can make your own plugins in FL and share them with the community, altho it has a tedious workflow for both DAWs, I'd recommend just writing your own in C++ JUCE

I love FL Studio, but even with version 21 it's looking a little cluttered and dated. Never used Ableton Live but so tempted to dive in. But do I really want to start learning a new DAW all over again after years of using FL? I don't know what to do lol

I use Ableton ! FL studio Is great for beginner but knowing it’s Shit ! Ableton Suite onboard Plugins are more than enough to make a Banger ! And a workflow miles better ! And the session view you can perform LIVE your stuff ! And Ableton LIVE ist the only with ! Piano roll are nice in Fl and that’s it’s ! Never an oder DAW ! And Abletons Controller the Push no oder controller like the Push with Ableton ! Ableton and Apples Logic Pro ! The rest are under them! Kind regards !

I am going to use Davinci Fairlight as my main DAW because it offers a good balance of performance and features. FL Studio is too laggy for my needs, and Ableton Live's UI/UX doesn't suit my workflow.

FL has a shorter learning curve cause theres a lot of different ways to do things. Ableton FORCES you gahddamnit to use its workflow and after a month of shakles you realize they had it right all along

all these years later though and that FL piano roll is still absolutely superior and is the one area i feel somewhat shakled after moving from using FL for like 5 years

Man, as a producer who started on and still uses Ableton, everything about FL’s workflow seems so… convoluted and wrong. I’m not hating though, it’s just wild how each program takes completely different approaches to a common end result. I will say though, FL’s piano roll absolutely shits on Ableton’s.

REMEMBER to ALSO apply the GROOVE you've EXTRACTED to ALL of your Audio & Midi clips so it sounds like EVERY Instrument/Player is playing in the "Pocket" 😉 For added "Secret Sauce" bump the TIMING in the GROOVE WINDOW to 80% & RANDOM to 10% -- this makes the tracks sound like they're being played by Individuals, not a computer 😎👍 LASTLY: DON'T apply the GROOVE VELOCITY, instead Program those SEPARATELY in the VELOCITY SECTION of the PIANO ROLL to make each instrument performance even MORE unique 😁🎶🎉 LOVE your techniques! Sincerely a fellow Ableton Lover 🔥🎵🔥

Studio One user here to crash the party 🥳 I have both FL and Ableton. Used FL for 12 years. I love it outside of the audio editing, multiple windows, and recording vocals. Ableton is dope, but it's something about the playback not starting from the beginning. When I hit the space bar, it starts in the middle of the song or wherever I do an edit. Maybe Im missing something. Studio One has it all. God level DAW mic drop 🎤 🔥

Suggestions for my use case? Im a guitarist that wants to use EZ Drummer for drums, and then add keyboards and stuff for funny music for videos. I dont see myself diving in too deep into advanced music making and want something pretty easy and quick. Guitar is all i would record myself.

Thank you so much, I'm finding it hard to finish tracks , as a drummer of ten years finding it hard to replicate humanised feel but this is absolute GOLD. I need to find a way to get humanised feel on an open hat at end of the bar Maybe this method on an open hat drum rack

Hi! I have a small technical problem for which you probably know the solution! [1] I connect Minilogue XD (via audio interface) to the DAW and set "clock source: usb/external" so that the DAW outputs the master bpm, [2] I write a MIDI score and send it to a bpm delay, when it starts you hear a "warble/artifact/gliches" because Minilogue switches from the patch bpm to the DAW bpm, even if it is set as "clock source: usb/external". This happens because as soon as I stop the track, XD goes back to the patch bpm. The problem actually exists (to a lesser extent) even if the patch and DAW bpm are the same! I'm very sad about this :( many other people experience these problems, even with different DAWs or different synths, according to what they read online. Is the only real solution to work with a normal delay and not a bpm-delay?
