I really like Abbey Cone. This and basically everything she's done. I think she's really talented and love her voice. All that said, I feel somewhat like there's something about this song that makes it feel unfinished. Hear me out... Verse 1: Sets the situation and quickly shares the "white lies" element which underpins the song. Then it begins to list these 'white lies'. Chorus: A continuation of the 'white lies' I'm gathering because she says on her album in the song In A Room With You the lines "I smoke, you drink" and "I'm drunk, you drive". Also, she's from Texas and thus the line "Texas ain't home" sort of confirms this. Bridge: This is listed on Genuis as the "If you called I wouldn't answer" section. I'm trying to interpret whether this is a continuation of the 'white lies' or whether this is a break from this theme. I'm led to think these are more 'white lies'. And then it leads to the end of the song with the chorus repeating. I just feel this song would be elevated so much with the incorporation of a Verse 2 and a clearer Bridge later in the song, and I don't know why she chose not to have one because she's without doubt talented enough as a writer to have added this. It would push the song easily over the 3 minute mark which - sitting at 2:57 - just feels a bit short.
