This is a great video, very clear indeed. If l wanted to use silk organza instead of cotton, do you feel this frame could work similarly?? Many thanks ♥️
@FiberDesignsbyAnn9 сағат бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate your comment and question. I have not used this frame for any fabric other than cotton, but I'll say that it would not be the one to use for silk organza as the "teeth" that the fabric is pushed onto is shaped like a triangle and may tear the finer fabrics rather than poking a hole in-between the weave threads of the fabric. I have posted another video for making simple frame that I believe would be better. I would also suggest searching for a frame specifically for silk organza. When I paint on silk/organza/silk organza or more delicate synthetic fabrics I usually place them into a large hoop (quilters). That, of course, would be a smaller project and not yardage. I hope this helps.
@sharonsummers8 сағат бұрын
That's such a helpful reply - and yes, l agree with all you've written re the delicacy of organza. It would be a large rectangular piece of organza with fairly fluid painting, so quilters would probably (l imagine) be too confined. I'll look at your other frame videos though. Many thanks ♥️😘♥️

Is the paint will stay after washing or you have to do somthing to make sure will not wash out ??? Thanks very interesting I like to tray it
@FiberDesignsbyAnn12 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching and for your question. In my experience, following the heat set instructions on the Jacquard Textile Colors bottle, the paints will not wash out. If the paint is applied in a thick layer some of it may be rubbed off. The only time I intentionally use a thicker layer of paint,and don't heat set it is when I make my crackled technique fabric. Most of my pieces are for art that would not be worn or washed. Because our applications and paint may differ I can only suggest you experiment and make a test sample.

Well, that's an idea. I spent a lot of my childhood in a woodworking shop so I'm familiar with the scroll saw. I'll stick with my sewing machine, though I don't use stencils much these days.

Does it become plastic like and hard for slow stitching?
@FiberDesignsbyAnnАй бұрын
Thank you for watching and for your question. I hope you will be able to watch my hand stitching/slow stitching videos (see Slow Stitch Playlist). When the paint is thinned with water and painted on damp fabric is remains very easy to stitch through. The weave of the fabric can make a difference - tighter weave (think batik/Pima cotton) vs a softer, less tight weave (some muslin). I suggest experimenting... Full strength paint of dry fabric will, most likely, be difficult to hand stitch through. Also, silk paints may be easier to stitch through compared to textile or regular acrylic paints.

Could you use this technique for cross-stitch fabric?
@FiberDesignsbyAnn3 ай бұрын
I have not used the paints on Aida cloth but I don't see any reason not to try. The paint works on both natural and synthetic fabrics. You may want to explore the liquidity of the paint - not too thin or too thick, but just right. Too thick would most likely plug the holes. Depending on how stiff you want the fabric (or how stiff it is to begin with), using paint that is too thin may soften it, making it soft. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and for the question.

How did you make your stamp?
@FiberDesignsbyAnn4 ай бұрын
The stamps are craft foam cut in to shapes (leaves and tiny squares). For the tiny squares - I glued them to a wood block and for the leaves are glued to a piece of cardboard. I usually use exterior/outdoor Mod Podge to glue the foam bits on so that the stamp can be rinsed clean and the foam won't fall off. Thanks for the question.

Wow -- Ann -- the dogs are SO realistic. You did a great job on them! The nose fabric you picked out is fantastic. I guess your "artist's eye" must have helped you to see the potential in that fabric for making realistic noses. You inspire me to make fabric "portraits" of my two dogs--a Lab mix and a Beagle. I tried to do the Lab once, but got intimidated by all the different shades of gray I needed for the "sculpting" of his face. Guess I should just try again. Looking forward to Part 3 of this series. Thanks again! 🥰
@FiberDesignsbyAnn5 ай бұрын
I love the idea of you recreating your fur babies in fabric, I hope you will go for it. My Mister and I walked passed a person walking three dogs this morning; two of them were young Beagles; they are so cute! One thing that I tend to get hung up on - Making this type of quilt; am I going for a very realistic look or simple patchwork animals. The details often cause me pause... I have to think about the big picture. For instance, right now, I'm trying to figure out whether or not to stitch/quilt gray in some areas that are in the original photo (above the nose for instance). The stitching adds color BUT it indents the batting, whereas the surrounding areas will look more raised. The tongue on the light faced dog is an example of that and is part of what I'll be showing in Part 3. I appreciate you watching and your comments, thank you!
@kerrywalker30055 ай бұрын
@@FiberDesignsbyAnn Maybe I should start with the Beagle! Her face is basically red and white with not as much shadowing as my Lab, Hank. Maybe doing her first would give me confidence to try working in blacks and grays for Hank.
@FiberDesignsbyAnn5 ай бұрын
@@kerrywalker3005 That sounds like a good plan. When it comes to black and white and shadows and light I sometimes reach for the textile paint and/or NeoColor ll wax pastels. If you've seen my House Cat art quilt, you may know that I painted fabric pieces that looked like the many different areas of my kitty's fur and then cut the pattern/patchwork pieces from those fabrics. These dogs, of course, are made from commercial fabric - a greater challenge for me! Sometimes just taking that first step is the hardest but I'm sure you can do it!

Question: I’m painting flowers on a long shirt. Do you think I could use an embroidery hoop to keep a section taut while painting? Can I use one without stretching my shirt out of shape?
@FiberDesignsbyAnn5 ай бұрын
Good questions and this sounds like a fun project! If the shirt fabric is non-stretch a hoop should work. It may help for you to watch my "Painted Fabric Landscape in a Hoop" video. I would suggest, when hooping, have the fabric laying on the surface - in other words - have the right side of the fabric (the side you will be painting) inside the hoop instead of on top, resting on a hard surface. BUT if your shirt fabric is stretchy and as long as you are careful with the heat setting - iron a piece of freezer paper to the inside of the shirt area where you plan to paint. The freezer paper will stabilize the fabric, and as long as your paint is not to watery, it should not bother the paint or end result. Don't remove the freezer paper until the paint is completely dry. Long answer but I hope it is clear and helpful. Maybe you'll share you finished project(?).

Turned out so pretty! Love that beautiful blue background. The Jacquard paints look like they are of high quality. Also, I never heard of a Stain Sharpie marker (looks like they are made to use on fabric). By the way, what type of fabric are you painting on? Thanks for another great video. Can't wait to see the next steps! 🥰
@FiberDesignsbyAnn7 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes, Jacquard paints are, IMO, high quality. Yes, they are Stain Sharpie Brush Tip Fabric Markers. Though I usually paint on Pima cotton (the fabric dyed to make batik), this was a 100% cotton made from a thread that isn't as smooth as Pima. It was gifted to me. I think it would be considered a calico cotton; cheaper than Pima, fine to use for fabric painting, and actually easier to hand stitch on.
