This is the right version with a big band, a tenor singing about love contrasted with images of WW2-so much nostalgia as young British and allied soldiers in southern England tried to find romance with local girls before crossing into Normandy with many never to return home. This was one of the ballads that immediately takes you to that period. So memorable and bitter sweet.

I think that Michael’s best version of this was on the album The Royal Hall Celebration for Andrew Lloyd Weber which included other great stars and songs like Antonio Banderas, Sunset Blvd, Phantom, etc.
