If you leave your drag on if fishing circle or mutsu hooks will increase hook up rate

Yeah. I have realised the bait runners aren't necessarily needed for surf casting! ;)

Mullet for bait .... especially muriwai and kaipara.... learn to read the beach and look for rips and holes to fish Into .... easier to see when standing on the sand dunes ...

Thanks Kyle - will try - the last Mullet I bought from a store was also a mushy mess though. Do you leave it frozen or thaw it out slowly the night before? I realise fresh is best though - just sometimes I don't manage to do that! Thanks for the heads up on the reading tips - I think that is some of the more important info out there. All very well having all the gear, but if you are throwing a line in where no fish are... it's like being super sneaky stalking in a bit of bush that has no Deer for 20k! I can also see a sneaky drone recon would be useful (not that I have a drone).

The Penn spinfisher is a solid reel. It doesn't have the finesse of the Slammer, but it's such a reliable reel. I've recently purchased a Shimano baitrunner 12000 surfcast combo, but I'm yet to put it to the test. As for the bait? Maybe I'll salt my bait for a few days to remove the moisture and prevent it from becoming mushy. Another very good video.

Yeah. I like the baitrunner style reels - but - starting to appreciate the finer feel that factors like gearing, oscillation build and rigidity bring to the party as well. I have the baitrunner big also sitting here - managed to damage within a month of having it (another article brewing there) - which will be an interesting comparison. Bait wise - I still have no doubt that fresh is best - but man, have I had some mushy frozen (and salted) bait recently. I think it's more a case of making sure whatever bait you are using is in good nick. But that is a challenge without pre-buying and testing it!

@@SchecterNZKayakFishing thanks. Meaning more - considering a Kayak to sort of bridge the gap between landbased and a boat. ;)
