Interesting that there are so few votes for Spyres, who is generally treated like a minor divinity. I find his timbre whiny and pouty myself, although he deserves credit for stamina and his perfect French.

Temo decir que la version en vivo de Ernesto Palacio se convirtió en un lost media porque no la encuentro en ningun lado.

Gregory Kunde's 1995 live Pesaro version is much better tough he didn't sing last C (it's not written in tge score). But he performed the whole opera with no cuts. Almost 5,5 hour of music. Michael Spyers did the same at Bad Wildbad festival in 2013.

How do you obtain the accompaniment audio?
@yengyanglee5 ай бұрын
You may make a metronome, that you could fellow the rhythm when to star and stop. As a final exportation just mute the metronome.

HOw can you compare Pavarotti to any of these? It's ridicolous, old school vs modern school, it's offensive to Pav and also to new generations who will never have the means to slightly compete.

Appears to be an attempt to showcase East Asian tenors…. Where late 20th and early 21st century performance practice has not penetrated. Still singing as if it was the 50’s.
@buddys_dad6 ай бұрын
Two Chinese, two South Korean - how is that any different than “showcasing” two Americans? All four of the Asians have been major prize winners, have sung in major US and American houses, and are only in their early 30s. I also call balderdash on your performance practice comment.

Gedda, followed by Pavarotti, then Bryan Hymel. I agree that Filippeschi should have been on this list.

Blake in questa aria è irraggiungibile. Note corpose, bellissimo crescendo, acuti limpidissimi, agilità e fiato infinito. Una tecnica perfetta. Poi il timbro di Florez è sicuramente più piacevole, ma nel complesso Blake è a mio parere il migliore

I guess I’ll be the odd man out and claim Spyers as the “best” of the modern recordings. His technique is immaculate. Gedda had a great voice, but his technique is kind of all over the place. As others have stated, Pavarotti is in a class of his own. I love Florez, but his voice is too small for this role.
