Where has this wonderful toy been all my life? Let me ask: is it possible to get an Atari 2600 driving controller (p/n CX20-01) working with Tempest 2000 for the Jag? That might be a good experiment to try. Yes, I know the driving controller only has one button, but there may be a way around that by rigging up a second controller to the second controller port.
@wiredupretroАй бұрын
@@cmdrarcturus8197 The Atari driving controller is unfortunately not compatible with the adapters made by Bliss-Box. If you want a good spinner, you'll have to invest in a converted Jaguar controller that has a rotary dial added to it.
@pamg6368Ай бұрын
@cmdrarcturus8197 The game-pro did not support the Driving controller in a useful way but it worked. The GPA does use it in a useful way. GP: when moved it echoed the patter i.e l,r,r,r or r,l,l,l I for get the pattern atari used. So to use this, the end game had to know it was a driving controller. Ok with some emulators, not useful in this case GPA: this adapter watches the patter and issue a tilt of the stick. So in this case using the Driving controller will work, its advised to first try it on the PC to ensure it detects and reads it. Those connectors get finicky at times. @wiredupretro if you need help reach out!
@greensseanpam5616Ай бұрын
The GP and GPA both support the driving controller but only the GPA would work GP, it mirrors what the driving controller did. Since the jagure would not understadn that, it woudl not work. GPA, this adapter reads the driving controller and turns that into stick movments, just like the trakball shown in this video. @wiredupretro Not sure why the driving controller failed for you but my suggestion is try it in the API tool first. Bacause of the age you may need an extention cable. The driving controller works just like the trakball, and will detect afer you spin it a few times.
@wiredupretroАй бұрын
@greensseanpam5616 Okay- it's working in the API tool, but unfortunately the Jaguar must be causing it to over-react. I think the Trakball control will be what people will prefer for this system.

I was hoping to use these for virtual on on the ps2, but unfortunately in analogue mode the sticks aren’t recognised at all, and in digital mode both sticks act as the dpad so it doesn’t really work out, the sticks don’t function independently of eachother
@wiredupretroАй бұрын
There are a couple ways to accomplish this. One way is using Bliss-Box Gamerpro Advanced combined with a Bliss-box Bridge. If you watch the video I made about using the Sony Analog Joystick (among other controllers) on the Atari Jaguar with the Bliss-box adapters it'll give you the basic setup. Just get a PS2 console Bridge cable and you'll be all set to use that effectively on many PS2 games. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6usk3erpdB8h7Msi=NEh8xfJ7iMZSM7Jc

I have a Logitech wireless gamepad F710, I've tried connecting it to my GSP, the GSP can see it, but the control pad/left control stick don't actually work in the menus, you can't navigate the menu system with that controller, but they work in 3D Tic Tac Toe. I don't get it. If that controller actually worked correctly with the console, it'd be perfect. I wish My Arcade would upgrade the firmware to support that controller.

@Lachlant19843 ай бұрын
@@wiredupretro Well it turns out my controller does work, but I think as you demonstrated in your video, you must use the supplied joystick to navigate through the menu system and select a game, once you have, you can then use the F710. I don't understand why this is so though. It's also worth saying that if you do have an alternative controller connected, you cannot use the first party joystick to play a game once you've launched it. I know, it doesn't make much sense. If I press the mode button on the F710 I can toggle between the control pad and left control stick. The F710 has a button marked with the Logitech logo, and if you press it while in a game, you'll be returned to the home screen. The start and select buttons are mapped to the right and left shoulder buttons inexplicably, I don't think the back and start buttons do anything.

I just bought a trackball on eBay for my 5200, and it's great! The joysticks for the 5200, not so much 🙄 I really wish that someone made a special rebuild kit for the joysticks, something better than those 2 potentiometers they used. My 5200 was brand new, still in factory sealed packaging, and the brand new controllers still aren't that good. I did buy some new Gold Plated rebuild kits for the buttons, but you'd think someone would've thought up a solution for the joystick. BTW, did your trackball end up working for Pole Position? You said it would only go left or right. In that game, you need to press up and down to change the gears from low to high.
@wiredupretro3 ай бұрын
@TeeDohJackson Have you looked up BD Retro Mods or Retro Gameboyz 5200 controllers? Some of therm are really nice. Also consider Edladdin controllers... Pole Position actually works with the Trakball innately by allowing you to press a couple keypad buttons to change gears.
@TeeDohJackson3 ай бұрын
@wiredupretro Thank you so much!!! I'll check those out. And no, I didn't know that you could change gears using the number pad, I should've probably read the manual. Did it come with an overlay for the number pad? I only have the manual. BTW, did all games come with the overlay? Some of them are silly, like my Pacman overlay only has selections for the * and # for level and players like most games I've noticed. Today, I just got some new 5200 games from AtariAge I want to play, (Ratcatcher, Xari Arena, Magical Fairy Force, Tempest and Millipede) but the new remastered Doom and Doom II just came out, and I can't put down the Xbox controller 😂

So, the final order from best to worst in terms of latency is: 1. Atari-Commodore 9-pin Game Port (less than 1 ms). 2. PC 15-pin Game Port (about 3-5 ms). 3. USB 2.0 Port (about 11-17 ms, including the latency of the USB bus, traditionally connected keyboard, mouse, and joystick, plus the delay of the USB joystick controller itself). 4. Bluetooth Wireless Joystick (about 31-67 ms, including the latency of the USB 2.0 port and the Bluetooth connection). Therefore, the Atari-Commodore 9-pin game port has the lowest latency, followed by the PC 15-pin game port, and the USB 2.0 port has the highest latency among the listed interfaces. Due to the significant latency of the USB bus with the connected mouse and keyboard, as well as the additional delay of the USB joystick controller itself, many people have simply stopped playing arcade games and fighting games. They no longer enjoy playing such games. Most of these people couldn't even understand what exactly happened and why their favorite games no longer attract them.

I want to say Thank You for the comparison, and review about the Jaguar Pro Controller-comparison to the original Atari iteration, and Hoskinson’s Industries reproduction. The review was in-depth, and properly described each component. I was actually surprised how much more tactile (clicky-possibly through Microswitches?) the shoulder buttons proved in be when compared to the original. One complaint I heard about the Pro controller was that an individual remarked how the D-Pad was mushy when compared to the original. It’s something I might have to try out for myself to believe as to whether or not it’s true. I’ve been getting into the Atari Jaguar little-by-little, and I’ve personally been wanting to replace my default 3-Button Atari Jaguar controller; but the original Pro controller from Atari is really expensive. When it returns to production, I will not hesitate to purchase a few for myself, and friends (whenever I get NBA Jam in the future) whenever we play some Jag. Once again, thanks for the in-depth review!
