you say kerosene and paraffin as if they are synonymous. They are not. Paraffin will not always work in a kerosene lamp. I had 2 coleman kerosene lamps I got rid of because they nearly burned down my house. Later I learned the malfunction was caused by paraffin based fuel.

@@snort455 kerosene in the UK is known as heating oil for hot water boilers. Pure paraffin rather than paraffin based fuel is the cleaner/more pure version of kerosene. Both work in paraffin/kerosene lanterns so long as they’re not filled with additives or a fuel that’s based on them

Wow finally someone else with one of these Grigg-Built 2 strokes. They are based on a Stuart A2/Dayton motorbike engine. rated at 1-1.5hp, grigg used it as the 145cc(1920 only) or 161cc scooter, or 1922 211cc bike engine. It's the only engine type that grigg ever manufactured themselves. otherwise they only used other catalog engine like black-bourne. Never seen one intended as a stationary, My best guess is this was them trying to make valuable use of stock as the small engines wouldn't sell well by mid 1922. They only existed from 1919-25. and by 1923 they had stopped producing their own motorbikes and picked up contracts from other companies to try and bring in money. i own a 1921? 161cc size scooter engine #38 and its nearly identical minus the cooling fan drive. Serial number 50 is a later build than mine, Assuming all the engines had the same serial number. And considering that the compression release is a blank and the 4th case mounting hole isnt drilled. that all implies it's a later 1921 or 1922 and probably 161cc (57mm x 63.5mm). if the measurements are 211cc (62mm x 64mm) than its 1922 or early 1923 but its most likely not seeing as the 4th hole isn't drilled I've got pretty much all the Grigg literature you can find existing rounded up if you want any more information. I would love to get in contact about some measurements and other questions. hoping i hear back -BM1009

Tricky one, if you like bling a red fan would stand out and sometimes standing out is good when rallying. On the flip side a lot of colours can look like mickey mouse. I think your idea of black and gold sounds good.
@rotaryhoes2 ай бұрын
I can see a hole in the split crank, very good idea as balancing split cranks is a right nightmare on reassembling. Hopefully its as simple as putting a metal rod in as you tighten the nut.

are the injector pumps critical to shim as ive got one that snapped the slider pin on the injector pump to make itturn off by that vertical stop and run lever .now replaced pump but still not fuelling.runs when pour fuel in primer for a few seconds so definitely fuelling problem

A drop of petrol, as these briggs don’t have a carburettor sometimes they take a while to pull up fuel. A drop in the intake helps it start

Starts easily first time the engine sounds great and running very well. You may find the rubber diaphragm has split with ageing. It looks like the drive is from the camshaft or a reduction gearbox.
@integr8er668 ай бұрын
I'll guess the pump seals are shot from age anyway, otherwise they are now from running dry. I love small one cylinder diesels. good save

Great video. Thanks. I've just restored an Austramax 3/300 but being a Tilley fan, the lighting process and shut-offs are new to me. I don't have too much of a jet-fouling problem because I use Jet A1 aviation kero in my lanterns. Cleaner burn by far, brighter burn and one helluva lot cheaper than the sooty stuff off the hardware shop shelves.
