Good show on the lowering bridge. I used your method with a different twist. I bought a replacement bridge just in case... I intentionally took too much material off it. I then "shimmed" it with short pieces of guitar strings under the bridge. Even able to raise or lower side to side. You end up with exactly the amount of height you desire with no buzz. I did not notice any sound quality impairment.

Get yourself a set of LaBella silk and steel mediums, and sand the underside of the saddle on a dead flat block a little bit to get it down to taste. I love the silk and steels on these. I had to order them though, cuz most stores only stock the custom lights from other brands in silk and steel. It matches the nut slots from the factory and the scale length. Much better. A softer rounder tone, And they look better with the black as an added bonus, which wasn't a consideration at all.

I used the lighter sets for awhile, which worked great but rounded low e too much. The with the light lighter gauge low e some of my tuners didn't like it so I had to tune for 5 and 12 and go by ear open.

I've had one for a year, daily driver, sleeps with the dog next to the sink and stove, everywhere else, makes me practice in all the times I couldn't before. Save my others. I sanded the bridge saddle a bit and switched to silk and steels, first the standard custom lights everywhere, but low e wasnt loving them so I got La Bella medium silk and steels and they are perfect for the scale length. Softer sound, but all there. They are the same guage as it was built for, can use smaller on the high side sometimes i just change wound strings or use The highs from a different set. If memory serves, I believe it was 56 on the low e, on both the Martin and daddario and steels that were readily available were 47 and 1/2 to 50. Fits the nut slot better, though originally I just assumed that the zero fret would negate some of the difference in the nut slot to string size. Whether it was scale length or nut slot size, having that .56 set makes it sound awesome. But still that pleasant silken steel sound, which this guitar body seems to benefit from in my opinion.

If you're serious about mandolin can i point you to Jerry Rosa his channel is called Rosa Stringworks Workshop hes a retired luthier and mandolin player/teacher he presents a vlog every day and every week gives a free mandolin lesson ( he could advise you on putting a light finish on your instrument to prevent moisture affecting it my guess would be boiled linseed oil or True oil both of which I've used successfully.) good luck

I didn't notice as much difference with the electric, but I think it's because there is a degree of distortion I always need to play with on the interface. It was harder to tell.

thanks for the tutorial. Been playing guitar for 24 years and I NEVER knew how to lower the action on a bridge. I can def tell you enjoy playing that guitar. =)
