I came here just in case someone is anxious about having this procedure done. Because of a really awful case of pneumonia, I have had this procedure 3 times in the past month and a half. The procedure itself wasn’t bad at all!! You do feel the initial needle for the anesthesia…..and there is an uncomfortable “pop” when they enter the pleural space but it wasn’t too bad. However, the first time they drew fluid, they pulled out 1.5 liters of fluid and when my lungs began to re-inflate,……😢😢that was the worst feeling for me. Lots of coughing…. Waves of nausea…..yeah….not the best feeling….BUT it passed quickly after the procedure was done. I was able to breathe so much better! So suffice to say, while I know everyone experiences these things differently, the procedure was not bad and didn’t hurt a lot. The lung trying to “bounce back” hurt but was worth it for sure.

Dear Michael, may I ask the the type of the cannula you use in the video? If I see correctly this is a single lumen CV canula? Thank you!
@pragueicu64432 күн бұрын
it is a dual lumen cannula mate.

you do not need a pressure bag!! The purge system creates its own pressure between 300 and 1100mg/hg.

Oh my God! I’m so sorry you went through that but also how amazing and fortunate to have the machine and a successful transplant too! Did you feel it (the ecmo) in your body every day? Were you able to walk?

I love the way he made the ultrasound probe sterile as I always find it cumbersome to out the probe in the bag correctly. His approach makes it far less complicated.

I had this procedure today. Came back to youtube comments to try and help anyone else who is worried like I was. Half a litre of fluid drained from my left lung. I had a main doctor and 3 trainee doctors. I blocked out the distraction focused on my breathing and thoughts. My top tip I took 2 stress balls squeezed hard in each hand. The doctors said a great idea, they might get some for the patients. Thankfully, I didn't feel much, only the slight movement of the tube going in and taken out and a slight bee sting like scratch from the needle when the anasthetic first went in. It's very similar to a catheter being inserted into your arm. The anticipation before the procedure is the worst bit. I sat leaning forward for approx 15 mins whilst fluid was drained into a bag. I felt an uncomfortable pop like sensation and called out. The doctor checked said fluid had slowed removed the tubes etc. For 2hrs after I felt a bubbling sensation on breathing in. The doctor said nothing to worry about. I had a chest xray after procedure. The doctor reassured me no air pockets everything normal. I will get the fluid biopsy results in a week or so time. Meanwhile anesthetic wore off approx 1.5 to 2hrs later. 12hrs later im a bit sore probably mostly the incision site. Hurts if I try to breathe in too deeply, move around, cough sneeze burp and yawn. Basically anything that involves breathing deeply. I've since taken paracetamol and codeine. Lots of rumbling from high up in my stomach causing gas build up discomfort. Probably things adjusting now the fluids gone. Another good tip so glad I bought some really good A shaped pillows at home before hand for extra support to prop myself upright comfortably in bed. I will see how everything feels when I wake up tomorrow.

How are you doing now? Did you get fever after this procedure?
@kirs1064Ай бұрын
@shweta8022 No fever or side effects. I felt a lot better and was able to function normally the next day without taking any pain relief. I did some small breathing exercises for a few days to help my lung fully inflate again as it was being restricted by the fluid. The incision is very small. You can hardly see it, and it healed within 2 weeks.

@@kirs1064 actually my father has been in the icu from past 27 days. He is diagnosed with double pneumonia. His both lungs are infected. But today infection rate comes out in normal range. And dr will perform thoracentestis on him. He is very weak and also anemic. And I’m scared now.
@kirs1064Ай бұрын
@shweta8022 Sorry to hear that. Any lung breathing issue can feel frightening. I'm anaemic too. Not uncommon with immune supressed patients. Your father will feel some improvements once the fluid is drained. Help him do some breathing exercises 15 mins a day. You should request his doctor if your father can also have an iron infusion because hes anaemic low on iron. He will be immune suppressed hence pneumonia. You could help him once hes home making smoothies made with advocado, spinach or kale and beetroot juice all rich in iron. Add some honey and lemon that act as a binder to help him retain the iron. If you want it thicker, add some oats. .ake sure he has plenty of pillows so he can be in bed slightly upright. I have some fluid in my other lung but I'm able to function reasonably OK Am waiting further tests to confirm. I hope your father makes a good recovery.🙏

@@kirs1064 Thank you for your kind words and suggestions 🙏🏼. He was given a blood transfusion yesterday. He is still very weak and still he is fighting. Tracheostomy has done on him so he can not eat or drink. Liquid food is giving through nose every single day. May I know did fluid came back after the procedure?

That suture needle process was nowhere near the local anaesthetic. The patient would have felt massive discomfort from that part. The whole procedure local really uncomfortable for the patient. No would do that to me unless I was out to it. Cheers guys

Why we are using helium?
@NayanChalwadi-r9s2 ай бұрын
So basically helium is a safe inert gas which has low density due to which it inflates and deflates
@NayanChalwadi-r9s2 ай бұрын
Also helium is a safe inert gas even if it leaks from the ballon it would get easily dissolve in blood by not causing air embolism on catheter entrapment
