Man, we're all starting to get nostalgic about these games! I've been working on starting to make a script for a music games video myself. Good job on this one!

GH and RB are simply two of the most fun games series ever. They are so damn rewarding. Going from easy in 07 to hard/some expert in 13 is a great journey

I'm glad you agree with the sentiment of "what if full albums could be used as a narrative in future Guitar Hero games." I would like that too. Or at least songs that are 15 or more minutes in length. *cough* Tarkus. I would really like to see Tarkus have its own event in Guitar Hero.

I got Mario 64 for Christmas with an N64 when it first came out. I remember the first time I fought King Bob-omb. He instantly threw me off the cliff and I had to climb all the way back up! Because he did that, I thought I was expected to do the same, so I threw him off the cliff. Then he jumped back up. Then I thought, ok most bosses need 3 hits, so I did it twice more. Then I thought, wow dude has serious health for a Mario game, and I proceeded to do it 6 more times, before giving up, assuming I was missing a secret elsewhere in the level. After revisiting all the currently accessible areas of the level, I eventually fought him again. I began throwing him off the edge again and again until once I misjudged my distance and he didn't fall off the edge. I saw white smoke and hear a sound. It was then I finally noticed that I was supposed to throw him within the bounds of the arena and not off the cliff! My first King Bob-omb clear took about 2 hours as a kid 🤣😂

I would have had rock band but I remember it not being compatible with guitar hero controllers and that’s all I had. For Wii anyway. So I just went to my friends place and played it there.

I never expect OoT to be beat with its incredibly thought-provoking themes, but I do hope Nintendo will go back to making Zelda games with mature messages and music front and center conveying feelings. BotW and TotK have their own sense of limitless adventure and freedom, but their stories focus on deceased characters you never really got to bond with. It's all a subtle ambience and gives you a feeling that everything important already happened. I miss the nostalgic, personal stories.

You got some info wrong. While yes the American music games died get over saturated and faded out for a while. Rhythm games such as Hatsune Miku Project diva started on the psp and continues to get new games even on pc. While the American music gam e market died out. The Japanese music games continue to live on. Meanwhile, you have great composers from the vocaloid and utau community working on friday night funkin mods as well other talented composers. The music game genre didnt particullay die out. Sure the economics situation and over saturation didnt help. But, if you look up the android Japanese store. Sega has been doing alot of Japanese pop idol games. I think if you consider the skill required to master project diva vs guitar hero. rock band. It's kinda obvious where both guitar hero and rock band fail to recapture their fans when the games made a weak come back.

I wanna be positive due to all these comments talking about what fond memories it brings up but I can't harbor anything but hate in my heart for this series over it's hand in killing any chance Beatmania had in the West and killing rhythm games in general for many years. That one X-Play review where they called beatmania a "Guitar Hero" ripoff (despite beatmania both having already existed for almost 10 years at that point) lives fresh in my mind. Woulda been nice if we could have seen GITADORA over here so we could have a band-focused rhythm game without having to dress it up in a bunch of boomer cock rock.

I got GH Aerosmith for Christmas one year and I loved that game so much I would wake up at like 6:30 on Saturdays to play it. Fast forward a couple years and I’m entering middle school with the option to take some extra curricular classes. My parents suggest I join band. I was reluctant but still did it my 6th grade year anecdotes the rest was history. I did band for nearly 12 years including 5 while in college. I was consistently one of or the best players in my instrument at every level I played, including making All-State in high school. I think my parents saw how much I enjoyed playing GH and saw a passion for music and saw it as a spring board to learning a real instrument. I’m definitely not the only one who became passionate for music because of this game. I can’t imagine what my life would have been like if I didn’t get that plastic guitar

The Rock Band games solidified my taste in music. Growing up I would listen to my brother master the drums (eventually connecting a real electronic drum set, so yes, you can learn to play drums for real on it), and to this day the songs on those playlists are my favorites

Thank you for this video, Liam. To say I spent a great portion of my childhood playing these games would be an understatement. I still play Rock Band 4 with friends sometimes at parties. I learned to play every instrument on Expert pretty well except the eventual keyboard. I even used to upload KZbin videos with my terrible Dazzle capture device back in the day 😂 some were FC videos, some just good rankings of gold stars. It's probably the video game I'm overall the best at to this day. So many great memories with these games!

I think, maybe not as big as before, but i think rock band is coming back through fortnite festival, which harmonix is behind.

Play this game always takes me to my happy place. For 1998 this game was pretty inventive with its ideas like the webs in the Deku Tree, the hookshot, Link's entire swordfighting arsenal of moves, the cinematic cutscenes, the Ocarina and it's songs, and finally the mood. Perfection on the system. No wonder it won Game of the Year despite coming out the same year as Pokemon Red and Blue, Metal Gear Solid, and Resident fucking Evil 2.

Even though I only played LEGO Rock Band on the DS, I get why are those two series so beloved. I love rhythm games and I had a blast playing LEGO Rock Band. So many amazing songs (compressed by the DS lmao) and I was surprised how good I was getting at those harder difficulties by playing more and more. The DS version only uses LEFT, UP, X and A buttons to hit notes and L, R for changing instruments. And if you change to drums for example, the music focuses more on the percussion, making other instruments and vocals quieter. Also it contains the theme song from my most favourite film The Devil Wears Prada - Suddenly I See by KT Tunstall <3

My first experience with Guitar hero was GH1. My best friend at the time had GH1 for his PS2 and we played it some but I thought it was kind of hard to play. About a year or so later, my brother had friends who had GH2 on PS2 and we got really into the game. We didn't have a PS2 at the time, so we would go to Best Buy and play the demo a lot. My mom got us a PS2 so we could play it at home. I was really into the game growing up in high school and played a lot of Rock Band/GH in college.
