Great video. Don’t listen to the nay sayers who don’t have the balls to take on a mild port clean up like this. Definitely an improvement over what was factory. Anyone can see that even without flow numbers.

Wanna know why your combustion chambers ar3 all carboned up? Poor combustion from poor quench distance. Set your quench distance to 0.040” and enjoy better combustion efficiency and cleaner chambers/pistons....

Dont need to take much metal , for improvement its enough to take all manufacturer imperfections , just smooth them out if you know what you doing

Not exactly proficient. It's easy to take a Dremel to metal and hog out what you feel is in the way, bigger isn't better. I was hoping there would be a little more understanding/tutorial than just showing people how to hog out a head

So what improvement did this work yield? Was there any before/after flow numbers or before/after dyno numbers? If there is no quantification of the work performed then it would be totally useless! Not to be disrespectful because it looks like a nice cleanup job and fresh valve lap. Do you get any noticeable improvement with this work?
@leonardstanford1877
@leonardstanford1877 3 жыл бұрын
Of course there was an improvement ! A guy in his garage can go in with a sandpaper roll & improve the flow to a stock head ! As for flow numbers you only get that when you pay someone a huge pile of cash ! Quantification WTF !
@trailerparkcryptoking5213
@trailerparkcryptoking5213 3 жыл бұрын
@@leonardstanford1877 if a guy knows wtf he is doing he may get some improvement. Or he could cause flow interruptions and slow down port velocity. Most garage hacks don’t know shyt about fluid dynamics. Oops that engineering nomenclature may be too much for you! 😂😂😂

Kinda completely agree when I’ve built heads on 4cl rice burners I found the guys who just die grinder the hell out of the ports damaged the heads surface finish on intake vs exhaust was important and if you took too much out the combustion area you’d effect the compression of the pistons you’d just spent ££ on

It's been many years since I rebuilt a top end so I have to ask, when did it become ok to have the valve face bounce all over the seat during lapping?

Yes you do lift away regularly. Adding a smidge to the top end often looses a mountain of mid and low. For a big lazy twin on the road it's not always a win for the application. Even when I did nothing but recon cylinder heads day in and day out I lapped by hand with a stick. It's a gently does it till the spec width of frosted. With the seats and valves cut and ground accurately it's hardly any lapping anyway. The stock TC exhaust port sure looks like it needs cleaning out to the gasket and header but I'll leave mine as it works great as is. HD make plenty extra by leaving things half finished.
