How does he make sure no note, only air comes out when attacking like this? I would totally spit out some unwanted notes playing like this... Also the subtone stuff is brilliant!

I would be interested to read, or hear, what the inspiration for this was? Were these 3 improvisations in response to some kind of stimuli? Or is there a story or expression that is being conveyed? The description only suggests 'explorations on the piccolo trumpet'. Personally, and I fully accept others may feel differently, I just don't get it? It doesn't sound good, its not emotive (to me at least) and I'm not sure its especially technically impressive beyond the 'extended techniques' which (to me) just constitute making 'abnormal trumpet noises'. Dare I say it manages to simultaneously lack both raw energy but also subtle refinement. Not everything has to sound beautiful, nor be conventional or conform to anyone's tastes; but I still think there needs to be an overall purpose and, try as I might, I can't seem to find it here? If you want to hear piccolo trumpet mastery: listen to Mathias Hofs or Caleb Hudson or Wynton If you want to hear explorations of what the piccolo trumpet can do: listen to Hakan Hardenberger or Malcolm Mcnab or Lew Soloff If you want to hear great expressive improvisation that goes beyond the broad scope of 'jazz', and personally I think that Miles and Coltrane were pushing those boundaries 50 or 60 years ago: there are myriad artists, including Peter Evans, who produce some really interesting, valuable and thought-provoking work. For me though, this particular output doesn't contain that and I come away from those 4:08 minutes thinking 'what was the point?' I'm very willing to accept that others may feel differently though and always interested to hear the opinions of people who enjoyed or valued this performance.

Great Peter! A trip in to the trumpet sound exploration and new horizon of the instrument.

This is in the realm of the unspeakably incomprehensible, but I do confess that it seems pure nonsense to me, to say the least. I'm sorry.
