That’s literally what they still cost😂. My grandma was the cb nut. She talked to people in England and Australia from Oklahoma. I just bought 2 of these radios on eBay. One was $111 the other was $150. I hunt and fish in areas of Alaska that this is the only option without a ham license. I’m going to build something in the way of a “man pack” for the 4 wheelers.

A great radio.👍 My two favourites are the Stalker 9fdx and President Jack. I believe they have the same board in them as the Grant. The receive on ssb is so smooth and they are rock stable with zero drifting.👍

Just picked up one of these and apart from getting a bit hot it's marvelous. I have a very similar tuner and it seems to do the trick. Hits the local repeaters and warms the clouds . Happy days. Update made an aluminium bracket with 3 fans and it cools it down nicely. Can't understand why Icom hasnt updated this radio its a perfect size and with 100w and all band all mode its magic.

Not true, all the caps need to be replaced. Also on the power supply and the voltage regulator caps can go with higher values for better filtering. I have done at least 100 Cobra 2000's recap's and trust me all the caps need to be replaced, especially the small value caps like the 47uf and under. You don't know what your talking about. A good tech knows this.

I refuse to buy radio equipment from eBay. I been ripped off twice when the radios I purchased did not work as described. One wasn’t even the one pictured. It was the old bait and switch. I reported it but of course nothing was done about it. Never again!!!!!!

Looks like it needs recapped and maybe tweaked a bit so for a couple hundred a good tech should be able to make it right..

I have a tiawan model. 1988. Very clean. Like new with minor signs of use. Did a recap and alignment on it about a year ago. Good to go for another 30+ years. Great radios.

I just got a IC-7000 I really like it. I’ll keep it , learned a long time ago not to sell anything I have because I always regret it later on.

In the UK I would say that the 148GTLDX were the best and those radios that were customised by Pete & John Newton, which they called the Jentec Mk4 (Cobra 148GTLDX as its base) is my top radio of all time. Sadly I had one many years ago and it was stolen and I have been unable to replace it to date. These radios are very much sort after still and are the golden goal of many radio collectors. I have a couple of 148GTLDX (Philippines) and they still work amazingly and they have an amazing receive, and kick arse with other radios like Galaxy and the SS9900 etc. Thanks for the video @vkradio hopefully I will speak to you on the bands.

Unfortunately, this radio has a poor quality receiver on short waves. I had this radio for 15 years. Of course, in 2009 it was a good radio. But compared to others, the radio worked below average expectations. Difficult menu operation. A big advantage was the multi-band radio. But who needs it on a daily basis? I sold it without regret until these years.

I've wanted one of these for a long time, but circumstances dictated otherwise. I have a couple of IC-706s, and was looking for an IC-7000. I thought I'd found one for a good price when an FT-991 became available at the same price, so I bought that. I have two QTHs so I then started looking for IC-7000s again. And again, an FT-991 came up for less than the IC-7000, so I now have an FT-991 in each QTH and continue to use my IC-706s as portable sets! I am still keeping an eye out just in case a bargain IC-7000 should come up!

I have the exact same one but with Abbree branding ... Abbree AR-2520 w/gps ... so I would say it's a mass brand radio and not Motorola or Abbree at all
