This is the most one dimensional outlook on character design. There are plenty of of ugly characters that are cool and interesting and there are plenty of beautiful characters that suck. The design choice to have everyone "beautiful" in your game is childish, and in the end, hurts your game because when everyone's beautiful, no one is. And while that may translate into initial sales, in the end it will hurt the entirety of your product, depending on the type of game it is. But far more egregious is the idea of making a character look pretty with no substance, which is the same thing as making them ugly for no reason. This is exactly why all of Nomura's games feel soulless and stupid, especially the Remakes. Pretty characters are fantastic when they're surrounded by other characters who contrast their beauty, or are pretty for a reason. When you have too many pretty characters, "just cause" all I see is you pandering to base human desires, instead of creating anything of worth. God the world has become so stupid.

Forced inclusivity has always been a problem, they just refuse to admit nobody wanted it until their investors have them backed into a corner now that they've lost too much money. Thing is it hasn't been exclusive to western companies for years, they still answer to the company directors and owners in the east; if it was actually unwanted they would've fired those pushing it in the western branches or shut down the game development before the launches (bandai namco, capcom, nintendo, sega, sony, square enix).

It is done on purpose to insult players (often via politically charged sponsors/share holders). So, the only way we can fight that is keep our money in our pockets. Don't pay for that, and, especially, do not pre-order. Play old good and indie games.
