"[...] in this youth wrestling practice just trying to look cool I guess." Don't feel too bad, Josh. German team climber Christoph Hanke once had to undergo shoulder surgery for an injury. How did it happen? Chris was trying to impress Tamoa Narasaki by demonstrating how quickly he could do pullups.🤣

Hey dude I recognized your username from your MoonBoard logs! Pretty impressive volume you got. Best of luck with your knee recovery. I've recovered from two ACL surgeries - it's not fun but you'll make it through! Oh yeah my goal. I'd like to finish my last ~20 or so v4 MB benchmarks and start working on a higher grade pyramid :)

That's funny, I wondered if anyone would see those comments on the app. Thanks for the encouragement on the knee. You will totally get those last V4s. There are a few that really gave me a hard time and made me question the grade, on the 2016 setup at least. Which set are you working?

I think the problem here is that star ratings are going to carry a major bias in that the people assigning the star-ratings are generally going to be higher grade climbers who hold a different context for what the lower graded climbs are meant to be and so bucket them all as lower-quality climbs. I'm an inexperienced indoor climber who only does it as an activity to do with my kid. However, I'm going to have much stronger opinions on what the good/bad V0-3 boulders in my gym are than the V7-9 climbers who just use them as a warm-up. Realistically, those higher grade climbers are who would be more likely to be giving star-grades to climbs, though. If you were to take me and some other climbers of similar level out and have us climb all the outdoor V0 boulders around and then give them all star grades I bet it would significantly increase the star quality of those grades in aggregate, as we would be more likely to have favorites within the context of those boulders. That star levels increase as climbing grades increase is an indictment of star levels as a system. For stars to be meaningful and differentiated from climbing grades, they would need to be relatively evenly distributed across the grades and contextual to their grades. Otherwise, how are they any different than climbing grades to begin with?
@RealWorldClimbing13 күн бұрын
I can see from that perspective as well. Especially from the physical guidebooks. Online resources like Mountain Project have more of a user quality rating, however. Also, I can see that the traffic/wear on the lower graded routes might detract from their perceived quality, while the higher grades are receiving lower volume of traffic and might tend to keep longer.

I really dislike this board. Once you factor is the fact that over a 1/3 of the holds are pretty much jugs, a large percentage of the holds are almost unusable after 30 degrees, and the board is mirrored, you are left with very few options. Not to mention, I don't really find the holds to be that comfortable. The vertically oriented sidepulls are very unergonomic, and the perfectly flat edges are similarly uncomfortable to grab when compared to almost any other climbing hold.
@RealWorldClimbing18 күн бұрын
I can see that perspective. I also don't know how the cost per hold is compared to other systems.

onle sand blasting…
@RealWorldClimbingАй бұрын
I haven't tried that but initially I feel like that would take texture off of plastic holds. Have you tried it with sandblasting?
@DominikWrАй бұрын
@ climbing holds are made of polyurethane. It is a monolithic material and has no coating. Sandblasting in soft materials dulls the surface depending on the size of the sand/cordunt grain.
@undawareАй бұрын
@@RealWorldClimbing .. Sandblastinng polyurethane is pretty uneventful. It's rubbery enough to disipate/absorb the energy without doing a whole lot. I need to try some other combos, but that's what I've found so far.

Search for dual trailer winches. You pick the cable yourself, I used one cable for both sides, it is rated for 1000lbs I believe. The week points are not the cables but where the pulleys and and hangers attach (because of screws and wood)

@@RealWorldClimbing I know, and my sincere hope is that we can keep that alive.🙂 You and I are almost exactly the same age, and my dad first introduced me to climbing when I was 14 (since I've accumulated ~8 years of active climbing, with 5 of those consecutively starting when I was 37). On a trip to Joshua Tree in my early teens, some friendly guy calling himself "Jim" stopped by our campsite and had a conversation with my dad. When he left, my dad was like "That was Jim Bridwell." I had never heard of him at the time, but today there is a poster on the wall at my local gym with a picture of "The Bird" on it along with an explanation of grades. Apparently, Mr. Bridwell was the first to add letter grades to the upper end of the YDS, making him a fully valid historical figure!😲
