Hi Andrew. I have what looks like a full size copy of an original trace blueprint and at the bottom appears to be a stamp that says "Contractual Dept. Number: 1097" The number is hand written. Do you know what this is for? thanks.

After years of practice, do you improve your hand drawing of straight lines? Do we really need to practice that?

Yes, if you enjoy sketching, it's a life-long pursuit! I like using an iPad now, as it has tools to help make better orthographic and perspective sketches...

Thanks for all these lectures Andrew, they’ve been very enlightening so far! What text book are you refering to in the videos? And as per your expertise, do you recommend me, an electrical engineer who’s passionate about architecture, to focus my interests into light designing? Or that area has its people already? I’m having a hard time choosing what to focus on, and what Masters program I want to enroll in.
@AndrewBrody Жыл бұрын
The textbook we use in class is by Gary Gordon, Interior Lighting for Designers, 5th Edition. Lighting design is a great career, and many people come at it from the engineering side, as opposed to the architecture side of things. As for which masters to pursue, that depends on where you live and what your options are. But if you're already an engineer, perhaps an architecture degree would make a nice compliment. There may also be continuing education classes at some schools, and a lighting design studio would be the one to take...
@eissaa.f7779 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewBrody Great, I’ll make sure to purchase it ASAP then! And thank you for taking the time and giving me your take on what to consider for my masters degree and career options. Will definitely take this valuable suggestion into consideration. Unfortunately though, I will have to resort to an online masters program instead, which hopefully will give me the same quality of education.

10:00 what do you mean by “circulation”?
@AndrewBrody Жыл бұрын
This is the intentional or unintentional pattern that people navigate an architectural space. Typically it's shown in floor plan. Think of the emergency egress plan that buildings have on the wall by the exit...

I believe all AutoDesk products now can export directly to a PDF via File>Export..., and choose PDF file format. Some even have a quick-launch button at the top of the interface. Macs have a Save As PDF button in the print menu, PCs have the same thing as a different printer.

After i import into revit, in material list, i cant find these Render Material. How should i do???
@AndrewBrody Жыл бұрын
I usually delete ALL materials from the SketchUp model before importing into Revit. To do this, in the Materials Menu, navigate to "In Model". Then there should be an option in the flyout menu to delete all. When you import it this purged out file, go the the Manage>Object Styles menu in Revit. On the Imported Objects tab, you'll see each Tag from SketchUp has a material applied with a name like "Render Material 255-255-255" or something like that. Revit gives each Tag from SketchUp a material based on the Tag color from SketchUp. You can change the parameters of this new material by clicking on it here, or through the Materials menu.
@AndrewBrody Жыл бұрын
Oh, and sometimes there's no material at all in the Object Styles menu - click in that field to add one...

Hi, I am new to resin 3d printing. I have been using Autocad for over 25 years and primarily design water/wastewater pipelines and pump stations. I have been designing one of our pump stations in Revit and learning how to turn that into a .STL file in order to print it. My question is, how do you print things like a house or building and show the brick/stone texture on the outside of the model from revit? Thank you.

I've done everything step by step from Sketchup to Revit and my model refuses to render the materials I've set for it. I've deleted stuff. Remade stuff, assigned layers in Sketchup and everything to the tee and still doesn't work. Don't know why. It just is.
@AndrewBrody2 жыл бұрын
It almost always comes down to a surface in SketchUp having some paint on one side or another. In the Materials palette, try deleting all the materials in the model. I think that'll return all objects to the default coloration, which should then work fine.

Hi can we draft complex geometries like that in Indian temples in drawing sheet manually??
@AndrewBrody2 жыл бұрын
Those temples can have amazing details! But very complex, with a lot of curves. I'm not sure to to quickly model in SketchUp, although there may be a bezier-type of drawing plugin to sketch the profiles. You might also try using a vector-based drawing program like Illustrator. On an ipad with a stylus, you might be able to more easily trace the different patterns, export as a DWG file, which can then be imported into SketchUp for manipulation.

this doesn't work on revit exported pdf files, could you show us how to render a floor plan on Illustrator that was done on Revit and exported as a pdf please.
@AndrewBrody2 жыл бұрын
There's actually a little trick to get a Revit plan to AutoCAD: make a new sheet in Revit, and place you plan on it. You don't need a border, and be sure to turn off anything in the plan that you don't need for rendering, like column grids, notes, or hatching. Then, choose File>Export>DWG... This process usually this gives you a pretty clean plan to bring into Illustrator. You can also render perspectives the same way, if you want a better "sketchy" look that Revit can do, or a little more control.
@smol92172 жыл бұрын
do you make the lighting yourself? where do you find them? this is very int!!
@AndrewBrody2 жыл бұрын
Most of the recessed lighting components I use are standard ones from Revit that I've modified. Decorative ones are usually from RevitCity, FormFonts, or SketchUp's 3D Warehouse - but I always count on having to modify them to get the light to work realistically.
