What if you are the manufacturer of an item? Im am currently onboarding with shopify and flexport to house/distribute goods that are produced in my factory in Canada. The goods will be shipped into the USA to a flexport warehouse. with tarrif talks ongoing i am trying to best understand what the stated "value" is whe crossing the boarder. for example. my cost to produce a product (raw material to packaged/readty to ship) is $10. the item is listed on shopify for $100. wold i list my cost of production, or the price of what i hope it sells fo in the USA? or should i list the cross boarder cost at $15, giving a profit value of 50% when crossing? If there is someone i should contact at flexport to help me better understand this that would be fantastic!

Tht sounds different. You're just renting out a space to keep stock at but a freight forward company from my understanding handles all the logistics between the 2 different countries involved in carrying the stock between each other. Like they actually help with the routes and documentation

I am A customs broker and I can confirm We do not rip people off rates a a lot lower then you would expect the majority of big shippers and hauliers do there own customs we’re here to help smaller companies stay on the right side of HMRC ( im uk based) many people end up either over paying and under paying vat or duty , the latter is not ideal ! , we also do something tariff classification we organise your documents and if food produce is involved iPaffs and cheds come in to play ( a masive ball ache for some items) we also have to have quite some knowledge on port codes rules and regulations, add codes , prefrance , statement codes and procedures. The cost of brokerage assistance is normally less then the price of freight costs for one palette coming from France into the uk , customs brokers are also nothing to do with customs and hmrc however we do liaise and get audited by the governing bodies. The wage is good but nothing out of the ordinary, and your certainly not set for life , hope this helps anyone who’s looking and in happy to awnser any questions. :)

So looks like base haul has to be paid prior for import country pickup of the container. If there are accessorial charges at delivery in import country,, is it standard for a second invoice be sent or is it usually consolidated in the original?
