There was no let-up from the moment the lights went green in this one. Some very good, close and respectful racing from the AMS2 AI. It was a very interesting race, in so much that the circuit really highlighted the different qualities of different cars, this is a real quality of the COPA Classic B Class. Enjoy 🙂 All the best Andy

Hi Andy, thanks for this video, I also have the CAMMUS C5, so this video was especially helpful. Although I like the little paddle shifters, I notice you have a shifter. Which one is it please as I’d like to add one to my rig? Did you have any trouble getting the wheel recognised in AMS2, it took me a while before I got it to work?

@@braddersclash Hello 😊 I’m glad you found it helpful. Yes, I use a Moza SGP Sequential shift. Love it. It’s been a while, but I don’t recall having any issues getting the Cammus recognised in the game. The one issue I had is that I came from a g29 wheel/pedal combo and when the Cammus arrived, I then had to connect the Logitech pedals individually, which was a faff… but my brother helped me out with the eventual solution. It’s one of those things isn’t it, once it’s done you kind of just move on and forget about it. I’ll update the pinned post with my full equipment list. It’s normally in the description of the video, but there wasn’t room for it on this one. All the best Andy

Your approach to setting it up and adjusting is very logical and others should follow these methods and discover for themselves what it all does from not enough to too much, and then back to something that you personally like. Also note that each wheel base maker has different sliders and they all react differently too. I liked your comment about getting used to one car for a while, then moving on to another to see and feel the variances. I find that each car, track, and game have all sorts of characteristics, so multiple wheel profiles are what I do on my VRS base. Formula Trainer is the best car to start with since it has no TC or ABS to add to the equation, then move onto other cars, and the tracks also have a big effect. Well done, congratulations!

Cascavel is a fantastic track, fast cambered turns that will test the limits of your courage, especially turn 1. Love the flow and elevation changes, especially after Reiza's recent improvement to the track (it didn't look this good up to a year or so ago). This is my test track although I'm still to master some of these turns. Poor Austin Powers, not his fault that Reiza treats dry grass as black ice. I find it unrealistic and would like to see this improving. I can understand that wet grass would have less traction but dry grass shouldn't have the same level of attrition as black ice. Great race. Is that a H shifter or sequential?

I never have gain high. I wish I could! I just find it clips on certain cars. And I hate clipping! I test on Spa, on the wassname Rouge corners near the start. Tank it around those corners and reduce the gain until there's no clipping.
@andy_east
@andy_east 8 күн бұрын
@andysonofbob2599 It's very much wheelbase dependent, but yeah, you need to minimise any clipping to make the most of the feedback being provided by the game. If you set your gain so that clipping is kept to a minimum and you still feel that the central position is lacking a little, you can add a little Low Force Boost to see if that gives you a better feeling. Happy New Year fella. Thanks for all the fun and excitment last year, and looking forward to more chaotic moments this year. Learned alot from you, needless to say, the other night, i managed to get a 1:40 at laguna seca in mx5 cup race 🤪 well happy, as it was only couple months ago i was strugglin to get below 1:50. Its funny how walls always seem to pop up with relation to lap times, was stuck at 1:42 for ages, then one simple setup change and a little different mindset and hey presto. It will be interesting to see you work with the JCW again after yr time in this mini, see if theres improvement as with what you mentioned about the JCW hiding some skill issues compared to this mini some time ago. Thanks for all info, guidance and inspiration. Much respect ❤

Happy New Year, it's been a while. Nice to hear from you. 😊 Yeah, those pesky mental-block walls do tend to crop up at the most inconvenient times, don't they! The nice thing is that the answer is nearly always a logical one, and once you do work it out you often wonder why it took you so long. The joys of racing haha! Laguna Seca is a funny circuit for me... a bit like Donington Park... I found I had to drive the circuit and not attack it. Give the car just a little more time to settle on the apex before getting back onto the throttle. Before I realised that, I found it quite frustrating... but when I started doing that it was a completely different (and very enjoyable) experience. I'd like to get back into the JCW but it's going to be a little while. I'll get the Force Feedback video finalised, then do the Copa-B Mini set-up video and then I'll look to jump back into the JCW and give that some time again. All the best and thanks for the continued support Andy

I was getting very frustrated for a while as anything less than 1.42s means a poor finish. People managing 1.38s tho, so still room to improve. But as you mentioned, i am enjoying it again. If you have a question, feel free to ask it here. You'll not be viewed as Spamming if all you are looking for is an answer to a question you have... Well, so long as it's relevant to the subject, anyway haha! From the little I have read about it, AC Evo seems to be filling the void of a different playing experience to what AMS2 covers. In many ways, AMS2 does its best to cover a range of interests, from vintage racing to GT Racing to the more obscure series', like the COPA Classes... (well, they're obscure to the European's, but to South American's they are regular series'). It's one of the reasons I don't play anything else other than AMS2, I really like that it's not filled with just the usual famous circuits and cars. I'd of never even have known about the Velo Citta, or Curitiba or Cascavel circuits (to name just a few, and there are many-many more) without AMS2. This alone, to me at least, makes it special. Personally, I enjoy how the AI in AMS2 Races, but if you trawl through the Reiza Forums, you'll see people who don't feel the same. It's difficult to know quite why that is, as there are so many variables, not least the human in the seat. AMS2 isn't perfect, Reiza know that and they are working very hard to make it as perfect as they possibly can. For every person that loves it, you'll find 10 that prefer something else, I'm sure. It's horses for courses I'd say, as with all things in life. As a community, we are spoiled for choice for Racing Simulations. None of them are really any better than the other, it's simply a matter of which one suits your preferences the best. GrandPrix2, GrandPrix3, GT7, AC, ACC, AC Evo, RaceRoom, iRacing, AMS2... who cares? Does the game you are playing make you smile? - No... Then maybe it's time to try something else - Yes... That's awesome, because that's what it's all about.

@andy_east wow, i couldnt have summed the racing sim genre as well as you have just there 👍 makes me think im expecting too much from assetto now. Also.....im single, lonely, depressed and worse......out of work 🤣 way too much time right now to chat about anything and spend ages summing up my thoughts, when its not really needed lol. That aside, with AC, i find theres just soooooo much missed opitunity with respect to online racing and the modding community. The amount of absolute classic 80s and 90s cars ive downloaded over past few months, and not one of them is catered for online in AC, suppose i just feel a bit let down by it all. The game itself, when in a good online race with other capable drivers, can get astonishingly good and fun, esspecially moments like 2 wide through the corckscrew at laguna with someone who knows how to take a different line to ensure you both get through.....sometimes i just burst into lafter at just how mental fun it can be at times, win or loose. For me racing is not about the no1 spot podium finish, but just like seeing you smile from ear to ear from a really close race but not acctually winning, its about the journey and the adrenalin you get from good close racing. Maybe if i had spare cash i could invest a bit of time into making a server that does cater for older classics, im 47 and did mechanics at Perrys Ford after school in mid 90s, just when the escort cossie came out. We used to PDI new cossies before sending them to the customer, and the mondeo st's. My first car was an Orion A reg with spotlights an rs spoiler and pepperpot alloys 😜 with the obligatory big sub in the boot, baseball cap on backwards and jungle blasting out the speakers 🤣 I guess im just a Max Power/Fast Ford guy lol. AC at moment online just seems to be full of either GT's on the standard spa or monza, or the mx5s on laguna or brands hatch.......and the level of driving skill.....well, im sure you know the score there lol. We all start somewhere, but id rather finish last without smashing people off track than try and shoot for first and ruining everyones race. The biggest rush is making through a pile up without getting shunted and going from last to top 5 in one corner haha. But when online isnt fun, AC ai is just not competitive for myself......guess ive improved alot recently 😍 And i see so much good with ams2 ai right now, agreed AC is old platform now, but evo doesnt look like its attacking the right points for me......there goes that grumpy depressed side again 🤣 hating the world coz im not being productive lol. 🤦‍♂️ Anyways, im glad you said it the way you did. Yes AC has some special moments, but i think ams2 is catering for that particular itch i have right now. Call me grumpy, but i think diversity and options is what makes a really good game, it doesnt have to be AAA standard. Anyways, im waffleing 🤣 Yeah, maybe i just need a different avenue to persue, and fingers crossed something comes my way with work very soon....couple things in pipeline 🤞 Then i can persue a new wheel, maybe build me a rig, and not have to sit in a swivel chair in an ergonomically wrong driving position haha. But yeah, im trying not to just type my thoughts to everything i see, coz its too easy to moan and complain nowadays.....cough cough thank you Starmer 🤣 Heres looking positively to the future anyways. Ive learned so much about taking my real world street burnout skills to the track (albeit virtually) and im luving it! The discipline and control of ones skill, going slower to be quicker, understeering and actually straightening the steering to catch grip and turn again while heading to the barrier.....all amazing things i dare not do in real world as there is no reset and continue lol. Its thanks to people like yrself, gplaps, broadbent, to name just a couple of people that have reignited my passion for driving. Now just need to find some good old 80s/90s racing and id be set just fine 🤗

It took the algorithm a while to point me to you and then to be fair it took me a couple of visits to realise the quality of what you do. I really enjoy how you wring all the fun and depth out of AMS2 that it has to offer. Your 70 odd subscribers is a travesty to be frank, but part of your appeal to me is the low-key expertise you bring to the table, and sadly this just isn't compatible with what's needed to attract clicks. No accounting for the algorithm, and the herd it so effectively shepherds! I've learnt a lot from you, not least to be more respectful of the AI drivers (I only play offline). FYI I'm spending my time in the RS1600 escort. I love it - on paper very similar to the Copa B cars, but in reality stickier tyres, so quite a bit racier through the corners. Hi Johnny, Thanks for the message, I do appreciate that. Nail-and-head on the algorithm, but it's fine by me. I am far too narrow and obscure in my subject to get picked up by a broad audience. I could race GT3's over multiple games and platforms and try to get clicks that way... but then I'd have to drive cars that don't really interest me and also do so in an environment that would not be as enjoyable to me. I suspect I'd also need to change my personality to be much more flamboyant to really increase the audience further. I'm definitely one of those people where the saying "I like what I know, and I know what I like" applies haha! I saw the Escorts on Owen Evans' channel, they look great. It's such a brilliant era for racing where new ideas created quantum leaps in performance. It must have been very special to be around the racing/development scene back in those days... hard work, but special. I haven't downloaded them, but they would make a good addition to a multi-class race. One for another day, maybe. Anyway, I'm glad that you're enjoying the channel, that's more than enough for me. Glad you found it helpful 🙂 This may or may not help, but the point at which you can apply the throttle is heavily influenced by the braking technique you use. When you get it just right, the car is balanced in such a way that the the front is still heavily weighted just at the point you apply the throttle. If you achieve that timing just right, then when you apply the throttle you get a feeling as if the front is being dragged into a tighter line. Not every corner is like it, but Oulton Park has a few, so it's a good place to practice getting the feel for it. When you get it right, you'll instantly recognise it. Then it's just a case of learning to balance the car in that way consistently... and that's the real trick! 🙂

@@andy_east yes mate, it looked sik, tokyo drifting. Its weird sometimes when in the thick of things how can keep control somewhat and pull it back, yet any other day the mechanics back at the pits would have some overtime to do lol, i do luv them moments, even if you loose out and throw a race it still feels good because of the adrenalin. Yes, been watching alot of old car racing lately and i must say those drivers are crazy skilled, bathurst is absolutely insane when you get a bunch of good drivers and older skitish cars. Might be purchasing AMS2 next month, the ai compared to assetto looks awesome. With rubbish ai it kinda limits the fun to just doing online races, which is cool enough, but find im more battling to get past lesser drivers who are more than happy to wipe everyone out than just give up the place and try and fight back. Would really love to join an online league with respectful drivers, think id get alot out of that. Anyways, thanks for the vids ❤

That would be a dream scenario. The Copa-B mini would fare better, but would still fall short of the BMW 2002’s by a couple of seconds, I reckon… a test for another time. Perhaps when v1.6 lands and things have settled down I’ll look to see how it works out 👍 The Copa-B mini runs on big slicks and is sprung much more stiffly. It’s more like a modern day cooper. 😊 Thanks for supporting 👍 All the best Andy

@madwelshbiker3710 I’m more than happy to make a trip to sunny Norfolk. My prediction would be: - Corvette: 15secs/lap faster than the mini - 2002: 10 secs/lap faster than the mini - Lotus: 2 secs/lap faster than the mini That will be my next video 👍 Unfortunately our VTC2 mini is hopelessly out-gunned on all sides, even corner speed. From what I can tell so far, it’s mainly because we don’t have the same control of the chassis movement that you’d see of a modern day ‘65 Cooper running in a historic series, unfortunately we aren’t afforded the setup adjustments to try and achieve similar results in AMS2. Chassis aside, I think we are also about 10hp down in what they currently are able to squeeze out of the engine after 60-odd years of learning and development. To be fair though, the AMS2 version does move and behave similar to still images I have seen from the ‘60s, so I think what we have is a true (ish) representation of how it was back in the day. @andy_east
@andy_east 3 ай бұрын
@Sabsterjoon I'm not able to comment on iRacing as I haven't used it either. I only use AMS2 now, and haven't used anything else for long enough that any experience I had is now no longer relevant. Yes, wet conditions can be very good within AMS2. It does come with a "but" though. If you find yourself in the situation where the track conditions are changing and you are in the slicks vs wets window of conditions, you will find that the balance of performance swings wildly in favour of the AI in most cases. Which makes creating races of mixed conditions very awkward. However, if you're setting a purely wet race, you'll have a blast. You may need to re-calibrate the AI strength in some cases, as sometimes it can work in your favour and others in favour of the AI, it seems to be track-dependent. Reiza are very aware of it and my understanding is that they are working on it as part of the v1.6 release. The v1.6 release reads as a substantial amount of work for them. Not easy work either, as pretty much everything affects everything else. That they've kept target dates out of their information regarding this new release makes complete sense to me, just due to the nature of what they are changing makes it a constantly moving target. But, to get back to your original question. Driving in the rain in AMS2 can be brilliant. The depth of water can be felt as it can send the car a meter off-line if you catch it wrong. This is a very cool aspect to it. You can see these rivers or puddles as well, it's not like it's a random thing that you only find out when it's too late and you're not able to plan for. It's there, it's visible and it's avoidable if you take the right line. In some cases, it's beneficial to take the wet racing line, but in most cases the normal racing line is still faster. This is something else that Reiza are working on as part of v1.6. If you haven't seen them yet, there's a few video's here that have some purely wet races: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opy5inpqn5J1fac kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4a6iH-FfdF6aJo kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWilmYiGaMtsfsk For an example of the dry-wet condition AI performance swing I mentioned, have a watch of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWSnY4RvfpaSprc All the best and thanks for supporting. @Sabsterjoon I haven’t really read anything negative about the work done, which is a good sign. As always though, I’m sure the truth and reality will be somewhere in the middle of what we already have and what has been said/reported by the beta users. Also, as is always the way with software development, nobody really tests it like the real-world users test it. So expect a number of smaller patches/hot-fixes to be released in quick succession after its initial release. They’ll be very busy with support and bug reports, I’m sure… hopefully only minor ones. They’ve clearly worked their backsides off for this release version, I really hope that it goes smoothly for them. 🤞

Did you find out what the damage was that was causing the noise, I thought that was an awesome thing to implement into the game, nothing like that in assetto. I'm beginning to find myself drawn to this game. Also understanding much more of what you told me about consistency after watching this, if a good driver is able to do that kind of run and keep lap times within a second, I've a long way to go lol. Anyways, stella performance, and looking forward to the next instalment 👊😎

Amazing isn’t it. Complete freedom to program any personality type we like, and we choose to program an a-hole 😆 I didn’t find out what the noise was. I did think at the time that I should probably go and get an external replay, but I didn’t want to break my concentration. In hindsight, I should have done, because I’d like to know as well. I’m certainly not in a position to advise on a game vs game discussion. I only play AMS2, and the reason for that was the instant connection I got with the JCW Mini. I’m not even tempted to try anything else again. I arrived at AMS2 after relatively short spells with ACC first and then RaceRoom. I did enjoy the TCR’s in RaceRoom, but AMS2 just floats my boat better. I’m a firm believer that the best drivers are the ones who are able to keep their lap time variance to a minimum. Clearly, it needs to come with a competitive pace as well. Probably some more sprint races coming up next. 👍 Thanks for the support, appreciate it 👍

It was good fun, so much so, that I'm now evaluating a 6hr at Daytona Road Course. I found the most difficult part to be the middle 1/3. I wasn't tired, but my mind went a little slack and then silly careless errors crept in. Thankfully nothing that compromised the race, in this case. I don't often get the time to do 4hr+ races, but I found it quite therapeutic, so I'll be looking to make that kind of time available again soon for Daytona... Now that I know what to expect, I'll be ready for that middle 1/3 next time. 💪

So I finally watched the entirety of the vid, the sounds of reving engines and squealing tyres usually lulls me off to slumber land lol, I can understand the added issue of maintaining concentration during such a long race 👍 will definitely enjoy the daytona race when you do it, yes mate, be strong, the force is with you. On another note, following you along yr journey has finally inspired me to do my first video 🤪 I did it last night, just a little 5 lap of Nordschleife race in my beloved Civic EK Cup car, but yeah it was fun trying to overcome all the obstacles with making a vid. Mainly for myself, I'm struggling to handle being in close proximity with a bunch of other drivers, it's my nemesis, as when online I really dont want to punt off other drivers or ruin their races with stoopid mistakes, and so usually just yield to them, let them get by and then continue, but that's not very competitive lol. But I do like to be respectful, so think it's probably best practice till I get better. My equipment is rock bottom basic, but gotta start somewhere, 240 degree wheel with no feedback and basic pedals, and thus really struggle with setting the wheel so it's not way too sensitive. Anyways, I've uploaded the vid to my channel, mainly just for something to do, but also for feedback purposes. So if you find a spare moment, I'd appreciate any feedback if you get a chance to watch it. The AI is funny on Assetto, and so had to keep stopping and starting again untill I was able to deal with a horde of little civics all fighting for the same space lol, but alot of them jumped into the pits for some strange reason, and so was gifted a bunch of places, but still I think the vid is quite good at showing my current skills, and more importantly, where I'm struggling. I'm starting to pick up things on the setup side, understand brakes setup, and using tyre pressure, toe and camber to try and keep tyre temps in the green, but it's really hard finding a balance on the fwd cars to keep temps up in the rear. Think I'm starting to understand grip a bit better, but still long ways to go lol. Anyways, I'll be looking forward to the daytona race, and picking up more tips just watching you rag around in yr mini 😁👍

You do have options though, and if I ever get the taste for racing online again, I will use one of these methods, almost certainly. I'm not sure of your age, but if you were 50+, there is a racing group called the RCV Mini League. I'm not sure who the best person to ask would be, but @OldManPlaysDrivingSims streams a lot of the races live and would be a good place to start, his name is Andy. The group looks to be a respectful group throughout the field, and has a range of ability with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. racecraft.online are currently operating and often use/alternate the JCW Mini as their Rookie races. I believe they use a fixed setup as well, so it's all down to you and what you can do with it. :) LFM will also be hosting AMS2 races either shortly after or when the AMS2 V1.6 update has been released. This tie-up was announced as part of Reiza's last major update to their community. I'm not sure if the JCW Mini will be part of their plans/races or not though. Within AMS2 itself, though currently, there just isn't much going on there. There's hope within the community that Reiza will develop it further. They've made it clear that their focus is very much on the Single Player environment for now. That's not to say that they are not working to make it better (bug fixes) though because they are, it's just not their main focus. If I were to race online right now, I'd probably go racecraft.online. If I was 50+, I'd be contacting Andy (@OldManPlaysDrivingSims) in a heartbeat. I hope that helps Andy

Recently started Assetto Corsa with a very basic wheel, I'm enjoying it but I know I can do better, but get lost with setups and explanations they give in the game, now I have a direction and start point. One thing I've noticed with tyre pressures, I like the gt86 great beginner car but it has about 27psi, whereas the mx5 cup car I've just started trying to get used to has 17psi, it's strange coz when I go raggin it around irl the word on the street was always to have plenty pressure, wondering how much I can actually drop the pressure on the gt86 now. Anyways, cant wait till morning so I can get on the Nordschleife and start testing things you've mentioned here, cheers bud 👍 Great vid ❤
@andy_east
@andy_east 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Something to bear in mind when working on setups is that the real world and simulation world don't always correlate and nor do they need to. The setup parameter values like tyre pressures are a good example. You have to work according to what the car being driven is telling you. Also, something else to bear in mind is the difference between FWD and RWD and how their respective differences will affect the setup options that you are adjusting, especially when it comes to transmission adjustments. If adjusting setups is something that you are starting to look into with interest for the first time, that's awesome. It's a fascinating subject that, if you choose, will allow you to take it as far as you want to go with it. Especially if you want to get into reading data acquisition/telemetry... that really opens up the avenues available to you. It can be a frustrating process, try not to get disheartened with it. There's a lot of back and forth and validation of results, if you're to do it properly. You will have to ensure that your driving is consistent so that the testing results and conclusions can be relied upon, this is an often overlooked aspect and why quite often the best test drivers/riders are not necessarily the best race drivers/riders. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If I feel I can provide a solid answer then I will. All the best Andy

@@andy_east awesome mate, thanks for that reply. Im not new to cars irl, 46 now, did mechanic apprenticeship after school with ford but quickley realised i loved driving, so went onto do 7.5t delivery driving. Have done ALOT of delivering and driving and used tractors when did landscaping. I did a rally day thing at silverstone in the 90s, a little Peugeot 106 rally spec and got a C grade, but was told to lay off the weed lol, unfortunately some poor life choices drugs and rave music took me away from other directions, but i had a blast all the same, so cant complain lol. Ive always played racing games since Out Run and Need For Speed Underground, and am now transitioning to sim racing world, and WOW....its bloody amazing. I loved the bit after yr Nordschleife vid with the mini where you mentioned the feeling after the race......thats exactly what i luv about it, the rush of a good race is awesome. Unfortunately my wheel is stoopid basic, thrustmaster farrai 458 wheel, no feedback and only 240 degrees, but at least its a huge step forward. Ive managed to get 8.30-40 on nordschleife with the gt86 and keep it consistant, also a 2.34 on silverstone gp with the mx5 cup and consistant, so the base is there, without being big headed, the skill is there to a degree, but with the shoddy steering wheel ive really started diving into setup to see if that helps the steering wheel perform better. As mentioned i have some knowledge of cars and so can quickly understand things if given good info, which games seem to fall a bit short on most times. Just listening to you talk about the bound and rebound has changed my understanding of it, and now look at it as bound is down from a stationary stance, and rebound is up, hopefully im getting it right in respect to.....thats whats happening when braking, the front is bounding, the rear rebounding, if the front dips too much sort front bound, if the rear lifts too much it will be skippy and so sort the rebound.....hopefully thats right lol. I could talk with you for ages about this coz its something ive always enjoyed lol, but ill try to refrain from comment spamming you lol Just one thing, i think i recognise yr name, are you a racer in the real world? Maybe im just getting muddled up lol I want to be able to hang with a big field of cars, but the wheel lets me down somewhat, and i also recognise that just coz ive been racing around milton keynes awesome road circuit since teenager in an orion 1.6 with spotlights and a big sub in the boot blasting drum and bass and wearing my cap backwards perfecting the racing line and heel toe shifting, doesnt mean im a good racer on the track hahaha. Im tacking on board what you mentioned about being good in real life doesnt automatically mean yr good on pc, will keep that in mind 👍 Anyways, thankyou very much, and for sure there will be questions along the way coz i dont have anyone irl to chat with who knows about this stuff. Anyways, much respect and peace4now George.

Hi George, The more information you have coming back your way and the clearer that information is, the better when it comes to developing a car set-up. It's amazing how much our minds adapt to it if we take some of that feedback away though. Adjusting the damping won't change how much the suspension moves, it will simply change the rate of that movement. You would primarily use the springs and roll bars to control the amount of movement. All the best Andy
@Justmeeeeeeeeeeee
@Justmeeeeeeeeeeee 6 ай бұрын
@@andy_east 🤦‍♂️ of course, im muddling up my own descriptions Yes, stiffer springs will stop the front end dipping so much under braking, and rising so much when accelerating, my bad. So would it be right to say raising damper pressure will slow the rise and fall speed, so it will dip and rise slower Another thing i struggle to understand fully is the diff settings, i understand why the diff is there, but dont really have an understanding of the settings themselves, other than just change it and see what happens As you mention, some changes can be worse untill linked with others Cheers
@andy_east
@andy_east 6 ай бұрын
You’re going to keep me busy, aren’t you George lol! 😆 General point first. We can’t really be sure what the exact mechanisms the game developers have in mind for the setup options. For example, dampers come in many different designs and operate differently internally. So I find it best to generalise things in our case. I hope it doesn’t come across as pedantic, but I can see how it could seem that way. I’m just trying to keep things as generic as possible. Also, I’ll only base my comments on the AMS2 JCW Mini, as that is all I have invested my time in when it comes to sim racing. Lastly, the way I’ll explain myself is the way my minds-eye sees it. I’m more than happy to be corrected if anyone knows better. I’m not an engineer, and don’t pretend to be. Damping. The JCW Mini in AMS2 only gives you the option to tune the slow speed damping (weight transfer/body roll) front and rear. This is further broken down into compression and rebound. Compression is the wheel going in/compressing towards the wheel arch Rebound is the wheel going out/extending away from the wheel arch Front or rear, Increasing the game value will slow the rate at which the wheel can move up and down, or in other words increase its resistance to move. Decreasing the game value will speed up the rate at which the wheel can move up and down, or in other words decrease its resistance to move. Differential: The JCW Mini allows you to adjust 2 aspects of the diff. Clutches and PreLoad. Clutches: These apply only when torque is being applied to the wheels, I.e when you’re accelerating only. What this value controls is the amount you are linking the inside wheel to the outside wheel under acceleration. With no clutches you would simply spin the inside wheel when you applied the throttle. As you increase the value (increasing the number of clutches) you essentially take that wasted torque that was spinning up the inside wheel and transfer it over to the outside wheel and have both wheels driving forwards sharing the load. You have to be careful, especially with high powered cars (which the mini is certainly not). Because if you share too much (value too high, have too many clutches), then you can overwhelm the outside tire and you will break its ability to do the cornering forces being asked if it, which are its main job. PreLoad: This is a torque value, set in Nm. It is a constant torque that resists the differential action. I imagine it this way: assuming no diff clutches are present, if you jacked the car up and spun 1 side tyre by hand. With no preload, the other wheel would spin the opposite direction (as per the diff action) very freely, almost free wheel spin. As you increase the preload, you would find it harder and harder to turn/spin the wheel. If you took it to its extreme tightness (beyond the game values) you would essentially end up with a solid axle/spool. Feel free to take the chat onto an email. My email is visible on my KZbin profile. All the best Andy
