Great job. I'd be interested to know the origin of the choir patch you're using, is it from a Korg library? And also in the original if you know.
@Synt512 күн бұрын
Thanks! I assume you're referring to the main choir part playing with the Ultranova (the blue-ish keyboard). Now, I don't recall the exact patch data, but iI used one of the stock choir samples in the JV2080 in combination with one of the choir samples of the Session expansion card (which has different choir waveforms, sound great btw). The M1 was layered as an afterthought, with one of the stock choir presets to give more weight. The rest was meticulous programming, EQ and effects to balance things out in the mix. Now, the OG sound used in Super Metroid has been identified as the choir preset from the Proteus 1/2 modules, which in turn is derived from the E-mu Emulator II and III libraries from the 1980s. These can still be played today either through VSTs (Beat Machine or Arturia), or by converting the original sample data to .wav and importing them into your sampler of choice. For more details, check either R-massive's website (for factory sample libraries), or join "VGM & Other Instrument Sources" on Discord (for more sample-spotting stuff). Cheers"

@@Synt5 Wow, thanks for the detailed answer. I only dabble in synths and realised after hearing a version of this on analogues alone [by the guy that I think did the HD Metroid music] that the choir wasn't synthesized to sound vocal and that apparently it can't be done without a vocal waveform. Then I realised I had no choir patches and that it's not so easy to get them if you don't have certain equipment or know about the whole sampling side of things.

I'm 45 now and I played this game when I was 12 when I first heard this song and tears are rolling now, so much fun memories, the best soundtrack ever made

Me as a guy which enjoyed Streets of Rage with Sega, still feel shivers when listen these melodies; so much emotional content, if we could extract the layers of our psyche and understand them like AI, we would see many features and nuances.

Spring of 94. I bought it as soon as Electronics Boutique opened the door. Went back to my room with my little 19" Color TV, plugged it in... 2 Days later. This. Torvus Bog in Prime 2 Echoes on Gamecube, they slide it in on you with a short remix. It's infectious, I randomly hum it a few times a month.
