The older cars were much more fun to drive than Modern vehicles in my opinion , Im nostalgic for my old Metro GTA i paid £350 for it in 2006 when i just passed my driving test here in the UK but it was so much fun , it had a manual choke it was that old but on the village roads of Chesham in Buckinghamshire it was really good fun and on a track it could see 115mph scary in such a tiny car.
@nigeljoshua3947 ай бұрын
I do agree that the older cars are more fun to drive, and even more demanding to keep going! Both the Series 1 Land Rover and old Citroen 2CV have manual chokes and lack synchromesh on the lower gears, just first on the Citroen, but 1st & 2nd on the Land Rover. The Metro GTA sounds like fun. Never drove the GTA version but did have an Austin Metro rental car in Jersey back in 1980 - ish. It would not do 115mph!
@Cayres97 ай бұрын
@@nigeljoshua394 cheers 🥂 and yeah the old Austin Metros had a non fuel injection engine so we're very slow from what I remember , my neighbour had a series 2 land Rover and that thing kept going and going , he owned it for over 40 years ! Sadly nowadays they don't make cars to last , too many electrical items and touchscreens in them , if for example that touchscreen that controls everything in the car breaks it costs £7 grand to replace it 😱

Great trip. Thanks for letting us in on the journey! BTW what is the shade of RAF blue in your LR? It appears to be the basic RAF blue. Many of the trucks the RNZAF used had the dark shade but the LR's appeared to have the lighter standard shade. Do you have any info on the paint? Thanks.

Hi Richard, thanks for your comment, regarding the paint colour, it is RAF Flight Blue, ICI part number 2718. The 107 pick up's were only available in RAF blue with light grey (Herbert's ref 37262), or Light grey with RAF blue wheel's! Mine has 69 years worth of wear & tear so May have faded a little!

Probably correct, but got my pack weight down from 22+ kgs to around 12 max, which has made a huge difference to my hikes. Shame no one in Australia makes the tough lightweight stuff. I have used a lot of sea to summit stuff but even that doesn’t always compare weight wise, and most isn’t made in Australia anyway.

Nigel Joshua I understand. The comment was made in jest. The problem is, these items are increasingly difficult to source from the US, with the poor exchange rate and high freight charges. I gets bittersweet feeling when carrying US made products, whilst wishing for local equivalent. With respect to sts, I’ll just say that I hope the intellectual properties stays local.

Michael Lee I agree with your feelings on this. I had a 6 month break in my Bibbulmun e2e due to a broken ankle/fibula, so had a little down time to research, and I was lucky to get some of the Zpacks stuff from their bargain bin - just have to check often, and at the time shipping was reasonable & quick. SToS are literally around the corner from us in Perth, so I do support them when I can, they also do good things for the Bibbulmun track foundation.

Hi Kerry, I just used my Galaxy S8 for the part from Kalamunda to Collie, & updated to a Note 8 for the Collie to Albany section. They are both waterproof, fall on proof and just great cameras- not a bad phone either. I was disappointed with the wind noise and have recently invested in the Rode wireless Go microphone, early test results are good, just have to make sure the “dead cat” wind furry thing stays in place. Looks like an elastic band will be the fix. Good luck on your E2E and enjoy.

Hi Joshua, we noticed that you like us have a lot of Z pack gear. How have you found using it, are you happy with it? What does are you wearing? I thought they were Altra but not sure. You look like you are enjoying your walk. Graham
@nigeljoshua3945 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, I did replace most of my 12 year old heavy gear with Zpacks products. Back in Sep 18 when I left Kalamunda my pack was around 22kgs, which with hindsight was too much. During the 5 months or so recovery from my broken leg, I had lots of time to watch KZbin gear reviews & hiking videos. So yes I do love my Zpacks gear, the classic sleeping bag being a favourite, very light, warm enough & packs down small. Arc haul pack worked well as did the Duplex tent. One of my poles fell in half when the glued joint failed & left half the pole stuck in thick mud - Zpacks customer support is great & a new pole was waiting at home. I did fix the old one with superglue. The shoes for the final 660km section from Collie to Albany were Altra Olympus 3.0’s. Great shoes except not much feel thru the 33mm stack sole - this made gum nuts a problem as you couldn’t feel them. Always dry in the morning after puddle sections, unlike my Gortex boots that stayed wet for days on the Bannister to Collie section. I really did enjoy this walk, the few people I met, and the solitude the rest of the time. I will do it North bound in a couple of years, and in the meantime will do lots of 4 to 8 day sections.
