Hi Lauren, so very sorry for your loss. Regardless of the circumstances, it is never easy. I am glad you are a sister “believer in signs”. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting her, I know your Mom was special, as she raised a lovely daughter. Your podcasts are like sitting with a girlfriend over coffee. Hi Lauren! I hope this message finds you well. Overall great podcast episode, although I do have concern. As somebody who is very familiar with the scientific literature on the causality of LDL and cardiovascular disease, I really do think you should consider a statin to get your LDL down to a range we consider "infraction proof" which is typically below 70 and ideally as low as you can get. You mentioned you had familial hypocholesterolemia and that your Lp(a) was elevated as well, this is double the risk factor combined with an elevated LDL. And I just wanted to focus on one really important point. LDL (more specifically ApoB but the former tracks the latter adequately) is casual to cardiovascular disease. This means that no matter how healthy your diet is, no matter how healthy the lifestyle is, the LDL (ApoB) molecules themselves are the casual agent for initiating and progressing cardiovascular disease. Whilst Dr. Fuhrman is absolutely correct in saying that lifestyle interventions are phenomenal and get most people to the infraction proof range, he missed the point that lifestyle depending on the person cannot drive the LDL down to normal ranges, such as in your case with familial familial hypocholesterolemia and elevated Lp(a). I took the time to write this comment because I really care and I hope you care enough about yourself to take action, even though lifestyle interventions may be the most preferable and comfortable for you, there is a time and place for statins when lifestyle interventions are not enough, as evidently seen in your recent panel. I wish you the best of health, I'd love to hear back if you do take action.
@AgeLikeaBadassMother2 ай бұрын
Oh my gosh. I am so touched that you took the time to write this. I can tell that you are very concerned. Trust me, I have had the same concerns myself and I do realize that I am at risk. I will discuss with my cardiologist and weigh the options. I truly appreciate all the time and thought that you put into your message to me. Thank you!

My mom is 80 yrs old and when l speak with her on the phone, she always complains about her aches and pain. She does not eat healthy, meat, sugar and white bland food. I try to tell her to stay away from that inflammatory food. She's on a lot of medication, and plus over the counter pain reliever. I hope one day she understands that her doctor will always push pills on her. I pray for her and will always try to convince of a plant based lifestyle and a positive attitude.🙏
@AgeLikeaBadassMother2 ай бұрын
Good for you for trying! I have given up on hoping my mom will change. She had a heart attack 5 years ago and let me cook for her for a while and stock her freezer with WFPB foods. That only lasted a week or two. She missed her food. She's had nothing but health problems. You can't make someone change. XO

Hi again Lauren, Hope it’s ok that I ask you an unrelated question . You always look so amazing. I especially love your hair!! Because you seem so well connected with many plant based so many plant based doctor’s, I’m wondering if you ever asked them about hair color. I had lymphoma and am in remission. I use a product called Hairprint, which is truly natural, but limited in what you can achieve. I find differing opinions online. Just thought I’d ask in case you have ever discussed with your circle of doctors. Thanks again❣️

Buffalo Cauliflower Wings by Lauren Bernick 1 cup chickpea flour 1 cup plant milk or 1/2 milk 1/2 water 1 tsp smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder Place chunks of cauliflower in the above batter & shake off any excess. Place on parchment paper lined baking sheet. 450F ~ 25 minutes to get very crispy. Place some hot sauce like Tolula in a small bowl & dip the cauliflower in it & place back in the oven for ~ 8-10 minutes. Can be done in an air fryer also. Can be placed in a salad with a ranch or Italian dressing.
