Vous avez tort. Il n'y a que 2 ou 3 masques, écoutez les chœurs ils sont formidables, les meilleurs que j'ai entendus sur cette œuvre. Je n'en dirai pas autant des cuivres !

In college we sang this. I love Durufle's Requiem, but i hate this version. The horns did it for me.

Cette œuvre sonore s’inscrit très clairement dans le sillage du Magistère de l’église dans un esprit de continuité avec la tradition et de souci d’évangélisation dans un monde sans dieu 🕌

I sang this marvellous Requiem in the choir, here in São Paulo, Brazil, under the direction of the great choir conductor Naomi Munakata, who tragically died from Covid in March 2020. Hearing this wonderful performance was a unique experience, as I still have in my mind these exquisite harmonies of the great Maurice Duruflé.

I had this movement played at my mother's funeral when the candles were extinguished. The end never resolves. Ive sung this piece many times. I love it! Thanks for this post.

I sang baritone this spectacular piece in our Masterworks Choir at West Chester University in 1986-7. Gorgeous! We traveled and sang a few churches in Philadelphia those years. It was a pleasure to revisit this here. Thank you. It’s 2024 and I still have the music. I saved it for ‘86. That’s how special this was to me and still is. Angelic!

Splendid performance of the version with chamber orchestra of the Requiem, the last of three versions Duruflé wrote and preferred over the first one with symphony orchestra (recorded on an historic ERATO disc with the maestro conducting and his wife playing the organ) and the second one with organ solo. It is also the first time I see a conductor swinging a pencil instead of a baton (?) Interesting as well: the bariton soli in the Offertorium and in the Libera me are sung alternatingly by the choir basses and tenors, similarly the stunningly beautiful solo for mezzo-soprano in the Pie Jesu is sung by the choir alti and sopranos: if nothing else, it is consistent with gregorian plainchant tradition and I am convinced that this adaptation would have greatly pleased Duruflé ...
