One important remark about L4S: as soon as one link along the data path bleaches the ECN bits (bit 14 and 15 of the IP header), you immediately lose the explicit congestion notification signal and you're back to boring old cubic. In fact, if you have certain traffic that you know is going to a certain destination that frequently bleaches ECN, you'll be better off configuring that traffic to go on some sort of random early dropping queue.

This will not matter because even if you had 100 gbps at your house we have a bigger problem to be solved. Once fiber gets deployed in the majority of locations we will have to work to shorten the hops from the data centers, where the content is, to the end users. Capacity just is not going to be there to support all this bandwidth. Sure it looks neat to do a speedtest to the server at the cable or fiber company office. But the throughput to real world applications is going to be limited. 1 gbps will be more than most people will ever need. Currently 100 mbps is still very very capable. The only use case that makes sense for this would be a mutil Tennant space , hotel, large business ect.

By the time cable operators spend all that money and time throwing at DOSCIS technology, you might as well pull fiber to every home and get rid of coaxial. No more amps, no more taps. Just direct DWDM split to homes. It's more expensive at the beginning but it will pay off very quickly over time. Why we still use copper for the last mile still baffles me.

you are worng about fiber not needing amps, any distance beyond 62 miles (100km) will need Fiber optical amplifier for signal regeneration for Single mode fiber while multimode will need Fiber optical amplifier for signal regeneration every 550m (1804ft)

Ah, we finally have a resolution. Its taken me all of the last seven years to wrestle and decipher how to bring this to the masses ... but alas, such was not the end destination for now, maybe if not ever. I've resolved that all the solutions exist to fully achieve the reality shown here over the next 3 years, I will launch and focus on the Luxury market and Lagacy leaders. That way, we are empowered to build the most thoughtful and delightful living gears yet. See you in 3 years again! RAP 🤝

I have a question on homeowners layout that when Comcast tech comes over to do the EPON upgrade will install a fiber node box adaptor as the rest of the COAX line can connect to this node for conversion compatibility or does the entire COAX line needs to be replaced as I understand there is no new hardware requirement inside the home only the outside line is being upgraded... The COAX line out to house has 2 connectors and as one has a spliter/input/output connector as only 2 access points into home for HDTV and for PC... I have a DOCSIS 3.1 hardwired router that is my own and using a CAT6E ethernet cable between router and PC. Appreciate your reply.

Well wouldn't that be costly? Instead of using mesh or repeaters for access point. Why not just run a RJ45 connecting from your modem/going to your access point.

A lot of talk about theoretical possibilities but lets face facts.. Even DOCIS 3.1 theoretically can do 10 gig down and 1Gig up yet nowhere is this max anywhere is this even close to offered... Why should we expect DOcsis 4.0 to be any different..... In fact download is the same...

Now what average Joe is going to upgrade their PC to expensive 10 gig networking to take advantage of these speeds?
@railpass1
@railpass1 Жыл бұрын
@Keith - think of this more in terms of WiFi. Higher and higher speeds will likely be delivered via WiFi, which will be accommodated by the evolution we are seeing right now from WiFi 6, to 6E, to 7 in phones, PCs, tablets, and other devices.

@@railpass1 I think the point is that if you already have a PC or laptop with Wifi6, how many people are going to get new networking cards to step up?
@christhompson6010

think about the fact most dont get full advantage of the 1Gig this is just selling numbers. they can go on the internet and see their speed test and get excited. But really how practical is this in the real world. in the business world its less about speed and more about reliability and consistency.

Well... now that they have announced upgrade plans to 2025, it will be nice to finally be able to get decent upload bandwidth for the first time in history. Yes, this is to yet again delay fiber to the home, however after all these years it will be nice to just have the capability. Upload, upload, upload... and of course latency is a focus too.

Similar is already here, even at the time of your comment. CASA Rphy has been out since 2021. Using a data connection instead of analog RF allows for greater distances. The system is channelized. The dual 10gig input/output to/from the RPD can be daisy chained. The launch amp can be swapped for a GPON module. The upstream can be changed by pulling out and swapping diplexers. In my neighborhood they are set at 170mbps up on an 85 mhz mid-split and its working using old wires from the late 1970s and old amplifier spacing with over 340 modems on the node. Other neighborhoods have new cabling and 33 homes passed per output (4 outputs). They will easily run 1.8 ghz with a 624mhz return. All can be easily converted if needed because they take gigabit data feeds instead of AIM light feeds. I have a 14ms ping time over wifi. That is off a repeater, that goes to a gateway and then three amplifiers back to the originating node. People might think they need more, but a lot of the time it is in their head. Also so many people don't have the gear that can handle it and blame the ISP. I'm looking at all the idiots trying to use a Playstation over Wifi.

@@Todd.T At the time of my post, they announced their plans, so I already knew what they were doing. I deal with very large raw unedited footage so yes, I really do need a lot more. It's crap like this that keeps the United States so far behind.
@Todd.T
@Todd.T Жыл бұрын
@@Energyone The USA is a different ball of wax. There are cable providers that can’t afford to upgrade their systems. With unlimited storage at Google, we pretty much maxed out at around 300mbs upload. Not many people can do more than that. You’d have to be on the same network. 204mh. return is enough for 2.5 gig up over cable. They’re not going to upgrade for an outlier. The real push for fiber doesn’t really have anything to do with what the customer wants, it’s the ability to reduce operating costs.
