Great! Except of the dilettantic performed background music. Please, if your skills are on this level, enjoy making music, but don't annoy other people. Don't. Annoy. Us.

Hi there! Thank you for your feedback - we’re glad you liked the jig! Regarding the music, we’ve noticed from other comments as well that this particular background track might not have been the best choice. For clarity, this music is a copyright-free sample and wasn’t performed or recorded by anyone on the Guitars & Woods team. We’re currently preparing new videos for all our jigs and will take audience preferences into account by selecting softer background music next time. We truly appreciate your opinion and at the end of the day, it all boils down to personal taste - as a random comparison to the track, perhaps the first Velvet Underground album might feel like a cacophonous disaster to some, or an artistic delicacy to others. :) Thanks!

thanks for the help! i was really confused for my project where to drill the holes, but why does it have to be 6 degrees? can it be perfectly horizontal if i don't use the jig?
@GWLuthierSupplies9 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your feedback! 6 degrees is simply the best approaching angle for your drill bit. With this angle you'll get the most comfortable access to the cavity with your drill and it will prevent you from drilling into the pickup cavity. Of course if you manage to make an horizontal hole it will not affect the spring claw's function ;)

Good jig but if the sled is a true 12" radius here, the fretboard will be smaller by how much you lower the bit
@GWLuthierSupplies Жыл бұрын
The sides are compensated to give the correct radius, which is calculated for a 6.3mm thickness over a 20mm block. Of course, if you lower the bit more than that it will give a slightly different radius. But this slight difference can be easily adjusted when sanding with a radius sanding block.

Can you get accurate measurements at frets higher up the board with this tool? Say at the 12th fret? StewMac says that their similar tool is not accurate higher up the neck, because the string tension is looser, and the weight of the plunger moves the string, giving you an inaccurate reading. I guess it depends on how the plunger and its spring are set up.
@erichfrederick9229 Жыл бұрын
None of them will be. Check out LMI luthiers. They have a digital string height guage. It's accurate. I got it for $48. The nut slotting guage does exactly as described.
@RonSteinPhotography8 ай бұрын
How do you account for the gravity/weight of the gauge probe, especially on the high E string at the 1st fret? Did you check with feeler gauges to see if there was a discrepancy between the readings? Thanks!

I love this video! Is there any limitation to the overall height of a fretboard already mounted on the neck? Obviously it can fit under the jig. If I did the math correctly, I would think that the radius remains the same, regardless of the distance in which the fretboard is positioned in relation to the sled? Thanx in advance and cheers from Germany!
@GWLuthierSupplies Жыл бұрын
Hello there! The jig was developed considering the 20mm of the aluminium base (where the fretboard sits) in order to end up with the best rough radius and a thickness of 6.5mm at the fretboard center. You can adjust your process considering this would be the perfect scenario. Thanks!

Could I shim the nut edge of the fretboard ~1mm to get a more consistant overall thickness at the edges when the fretboard is sawed into shape? So that i can get a more even depth for fretboard binding?
@GWLuthierSupplies2 жыл бұрын
