New York Central System like the 20th century limited NYCS, not the New York subway. That would be like IRT or IND. either way nice locks! They are some nice ones.

if you find out a secret on finding out the operating sheer line in the amount of time that has passed since the making of this video, please help me out. i found a discarded best lock, which was able to spp to control twice, not able to get the operating. i have been thinking of drilling out the caps, threading the chambers and turning it into a challenge lock. i dont have keys and unable to gut it and to attempt to decode the key pins for new keys to be made. any tips you have to help out is appreciated

I got lucky and found 4 of these. They are beautiful locks. Too bad they can't be disassembled. By the way, after you picked it open, have you tried to use the key to close it again? If not, you're in for a surprise. You're going to have to pick the keyway back into position before you can use the key again. You'll see. The key pins and driver pins are on opposite sides of the keyway now. You have to pick the driver pins to get the core to turn back to the normal position.

Well, it started out to be a great instructional video - by 2:10, it rapidly became more difficult to fully understand. Several distractions, but still it was nice to see the pieces and parts of LFIC, and the 2 shear lines that make up operation and control. I have 2 vintage sfic 5 pin Best locks. There is only 1 key for both locks, the operating key. No control key. I have tried to pick them to control - even bought the Gerry Finch tension tool, and cannot get either picked to control, however I can pick them open with a couple of different profiled picks. I'd love to pick them to control, then possible find a way to have control keys made or impressioned. You seem like a good teacher for this stuff. I'd like to see more of these.

Snack. You already have two of the common cuts, look at the control sleeve, the pins are held in by a cap, the stack is driven out with a punch, if you carefully punch out each stack chamber by chamber, you can extrapolate the needed depth of your cuts since you have the control key, you will need new caps, a punch, a cap punch and a figure eight block would make this mission much easier, You Can Do It.

I use a Brockhage BPG-25 snapper gun, it has a dual bump action per squeeze. FYI leaving it at max setting often over-sets low cut pins, try gradually winding back the tension wheel if you find you're over-setting too many times.

Yup, Best Cormax has 4 exclusivity levels. The one he picked is a non exclusive core. The small "1" on the back of the core indicates this exclusivity level.
@tomk429
@tomk429 7 жыл бұрын
One should note that the core he picked is the M series of the Best Cormax, where the key he used, a J1 keyway, can be used in the Best Standard J keyway cores. Same goes for K L and M keyways.

Looked like the machinist did a great job. Until you open it and find all those pieces of metal. Shows he doesn't really care about his work unfortunately. Probably put it on an auto mill and blew it off with a little compressed air when finished.

Actually, the top pins (and the Primus finger-pins) aren't made of steel, but of nickel-silver alloy - just like the key. Schlage Primus was originally patented in 1988. Schlage introduced the Everest keying system in 1997. Schlage introduced the #7 XP Primus finger-pin to extend the patent life of Schlage Primus into 2024. Schlage extended the Everest patent from 2014 to 2029 by introducing Everest-29 as a backwards-compatible key solution where its patented keys will also operate the "legacy" Everest key-ways whereas the "legacy" Everest key won't even enter the new Everest-29 key-ways. (Legacy Everest key-way families: C-OPEN(Unrestricted/Unsanctioned), D-Restricted/Sanctioned, B-SFIC (Restricted/Sanctioned) Everest-29: S-OPEN (Unrestricted/Unsanctioned), T-Restricted/Sanctioned, R-SFIC (Restricted/Sanctioned) Everest as of 2016 is also available in a special key-in-knob/lever cylinder for B/R families SFIC 7-pin key section to integrate with SFIC products that are used within the same facility. these "SL" cylinders do not use standard pin-tumbler "pin-stacks", but instead use a special "L" shaped pin that interfaces with a sidebar, similar to Primus with its finger-pins and sidebar... SL-series cylinders are also available with Primus as featured as an additional security option. SL-series cylinders cannot be bumped open. Schlage, Everest, Everest-29, Everest-29-SL, Primus, Primus-XP & ASSA are conceived by the same Swedish inventor Bo Widen. Schlage Everest is also available in the restricted families (D & T, for Everest-29). SFIC (B-family Everest & R-family Everest-29) Everest-29 is also backwards-compatible to the older "legacy" Everest key-ways of the compatible family & section nomenclature i.e. S-123 ~ C-123; T-145 ~ D-145, etcetera.

Christopher Lawler Hey bud, I kjow this is an older video and comment. But you should really do an informative video explaining the differences between the different types of Everest and Primus out there. I just got a FSIC Everest Primus that I need a control key for... I have the operation key but my problem is it is the D-135 keyway.

Hi Robert ~ nicely done! You're right, no security pins in those locks. We stopped producing the "PL Series" a good seven years back. A great lock, but back then we weren't worried about security pins because the Masters didn't have them. In 2010 that changed for us and all of our cylinders are loaded with security pins. Just wanted to clarify JB's statement... we're a family owned business and without going into details, I run the company and I'm not a Chinese American (although my wife is and she works at the company as well!). The PL Series was a mix of some were 100% made in China, while many were assembled in the USA. But much/most of what we do today is not "built in China." Again, good work!
