If anyone wants to know. You can use your US issued DL or ID to take a flight within México. I just went to Tulum with no passport & had no issues.

If you want to do your own passport photos at home, beware of where you have them printed. Try to avoid places that have their own passport photo service because they have a conflict of interest. Some might claim there's something wrong with your photos when there's not. They want you to pay them $15-20 to shoot another one for you. Have your pictures processed at a place that doesn't offer a passport service, such as an online photo store. Allow yourself plenty of time, because it could take a week or two to get your prints. For years, we took our own passport pictures and had no problems. (My husband was a photojournalist.) Suddenly,, our latest pictures are being refused by processors. At Walgreen's, blue splotches mysteriously appeared on the white background. There was no evidence of that on our Mac computer screen at home. At an independent photo processing place,, the owner claimed it would be "against the law" for him to print our photos, that we would have to use his service instead. Of course, he was not telling the truth. We ended up going to Walmart. The pictures were less than $8 apiece. They weren't flattering (Mine makes my driver's license picture look like it was taken by Annie Leibovitz) and we had no poses to choose from. But they met all the basic requirements and we got it over with.
