Bear spray will not save your life or anyone else’s if a bear decides it wants you. A proper firearm will…

I have a higher probability of getting hurt driving into town. I don't want you on our mining claim up north where we have 6 to 8 bears walk through camp every season. We would have a pile of dead bears to explain. My husband has been on that claim for nearly 50 years. He has been false charged three times over the years (in fact, he swears grizzlies are left handed because all three that charged him, swiped the air with it's left paw first). But so far, we haven't had to kill a single one. Not to say that we aren't prepared and ready. We are. We have rifles and bear spray at the ready and have stood there ready to kill one if need be, but we are in their territory, not the other way around. They have as much right to live as we do.

Very informative and entertaining. I give credit to Dave Smith for pointing me to this site. I live in southern Arizona, but we do have a small contingent of bears living in the Huachuca Mountains.

So excellent that BF Skinner is still being understood for the incredibly powerful tools (operant conditioning) he created. And U can go to college to study the behavior of bears, it's a field known as ethology. Stay safe young Expert. I'm sure you have saved lives with your video. Human and Ursine lives! TallyHo JB3

very good documentary. We are putting together a short documentary of an interview of a bear attack. Could we use very short 3-5 second footages from here?

Just don’t go into bear country. If you do, take spray and a big gun and never go solo.

Rule one-Don’t go hiking in bear country; Rule two and three are the same as the first one!

I think the key is to take all the advice, bring bear spray and a knife and/or a gun but never ever let anything give you a false sense of safety. There are exceptions to every rule.

My work place is really bad about bear spray, I work in a construction sight with a bunch of black bears, and basically when I have to walk home 5-7 mins they tell me I can’t own bear mace at work
Great video. As a German, I have never seen or met a bear. Soon I'll be spending 6 months in Montana, biking through nature. Bears are definately around there and I am intending to watch this video before each trip, so that I've got all of that in mind. I think it's no exaggeration, that this knowledge and it's proper use can safe my life and health at some point. As it seems to be legal for aliens, I will carry a gun, but I'd prefer to not harm a single animal at any point. This video certainly let me know, when I better step over this intention.

The information here is mostly good, but could get you killed in some rare situations. Watch "Night of the Grizzlies", it documents two separate bare attacks where the victims did everything right, which got them killed.

I came face to face with a bear. Before I had time to react he had pulled out a can of man spray and sprayed me in my face. I immediately ran off into the woods.

Thank you for the great video. It's too bad we always come back to bear fatalities - they are so rare. I'm sure there are way more hiking fatalities of other kinds, not even including the drive on the highway to get there.

Brown and black bears are NOT carnivores, they are omnivores. Polar bears go for fat, rather than meat itself.

Can bears smell food in canned goods that aren't opened yet? Like canned tuna fish
@stikinewild55386 ай бұрын
No can't smell it, but by nature a bear tests almost every thing. They will put teeth into gas cans , chew up a camera just to see what in it for food so yes they will break into it.

A whistle is smaller and lighter than that toot with cone. Also, having an axe is useful for many things, bears included. I will not claim that an axe is a savior, but is better than bare-handed. When you sleep in the wilderness, keep a powerful lantern already set on its strongest output. In LED era, powerful lanterns can be quite small. Keep the lantern's strand around a wrist, while sleeping. A direct lantern glare in bear's eyes if efficient, unless that bear really likes people, or their taste, more correctly. By the way, while sleeping, I keep around the other wrist a cord going to the handle of my axe, just in case. Questionable how useful it may be, but it is better than bare-handed.

An LED MIGHT work down south, I've never heard of that, but no one carries a flashlight or LED 'north of 60' in the summer when most folks are out in the woods because it never gets dark.
@FlorinSutuАй бұрын
@@LaurieWard-qu9sy - You have a point, I did not sleep in the wilderness 'north of 60'. "Down south" it works. I was sleeping with ear plugs in hammock, alone in a forest. The loud crack of crashed branches woke me in the night, it had to be a bear. I rotated my LED like a lighthouse, I did not know the direction of the sound. I had no further problems. When I was little, my father made a bear to run away with a lantern, and back then there were no LED's, just weak incandescent bulbs.

Sadly we don't have these amazing channels to discover more about our wildlife system and it is such a shame that Government don't even promote these guys, I recently discovered and shocked that India had one of the most ancient forest in the world and in 1828 British paleontologist found bones of Titanosaurs Indicus(A dinosaurs).

Bears and other apex predators attack because they are hungry, angry, or threatened. Bears are territorial. However, bears are unpredictable and can attack for any reason. Sometimes nothing stops a bear except being dispatched by an effective first shot. Bear spray can work if the weather is not windy or rainy. Grizzly bears are the most vicious and dangerous and can kill for no apparent reason except probably to show who is boss. Humans are prey to apex predators.

Why don't you show the 4 strap system with specialty buckles available from Jimthekayakguy on KZbin. It has been used successfully since 2016 in Florida, NC, CO, etc. And David Telasko knows that it works as thousands have been installed by me and volunteers around the state. It is not 100% but it sounds better than the odds of the other cans you all were talking about at a fraction of the cost. . My videos are available and so am I. Jim
