The sheet music for this song doesn't sound the same. I wonder if it was edited after by Tom Lehrer.

Our Rossini: A brillaint comedic composer. I wish Tom had written some light operas, but I just does love what he did actually do. A national treasure.

If you look for Black watch Tartan or Government Tartan 1a/1b. Also must say Ross Tartan is a very splendid Tartan good choice.

You may talk about your Lancers or your Irish Fusiliers The Aberdeen Militia or the Queen's own Volunteers Or any other regiment that's lying far awa' Come give to me the tartan of the Gallant Forty Twa And strolling through the green fields on a summer day Watching all the country girls working at the hay I really was delighted and he stole my heart awa' When I saw him in the tartan of the Gallant Forty Twa I never will forget the day his regiment marched past The pipes they played a lively tune but my heart was aghast He turned around and smiled farewell and then from far awa' He waved to me the tartan of the Gallant Forty Twa And strolling through the green fields on a summer day Watching all the country girls working at the hay I really was delighted and he stole my heart awa' When I saw him in the tartan of the Gallant Forty Twa Once again I heard the music of the pipers from afar They tramped and tramped the weary men returning from the war And as they nearer drew I brushed a woeful tear awa' To see my bonnie laddie of the Gallant Forty Twa And strolling through the green fields on a summer day Watching all the country girls working at the hay I really was delighted and he stole my heart awa' When I saw him in the tartan of the Gallant Forty Twa I really was delighted and he stole my heart awa' When I saw him in the tartan of the Gallant Forty Twa

When he sings the line about Franco, he incorporates the melody of 'El Quinto Regimiento', a tune from the Spanish Civil War, into the song.

My family served in the Black Watch for more years that I care to remember and we're all for independence, don't mistake duty for loyalty.
@bouncinbetty20325 жыл бұрын
@Straight White British Protestant That's the dumbest thing I've heard all day, you are truly a fucking idiot, so someone isn't allowed to serve and protect their country because they support independence? What do you suggest they do, join the Scottish army instead of the British one? I'm sure they'd love to if it existed.
@jimmynyarlathotep68577 жыл бұрын
I think the thing I like about so much of Lehrer's 'song of a genre' work is that his songs are clearly satires from a place of fondness and knowledge for the musical genres and their followers. I think its what makes his barbs, savage though they are so enjoyable.

The left may not be able to beat the fascists in the elections, but at least we can win the post-election crowd sizes, and we all know that's what really counts in determining whether people get healthcare and abortion rights.
@feartheghus5 жыл бұрын
On the bright side there was no fascist victory either, so really it went as well as possible, the left lost, the far left lost, the far far left lost.
