Let me guess why Banten at that time was said as the most producer of pepper. There are two kinds of pepper, namely white pepper and black pepper. White pepper was mostly produced by Bangka Island and black pepper was mostly produced by the Southern part of Sumatra Island. Both commodities were transported from Bangka Island and South Sumatra to Banten Port and then exported to Europe from Banten Port. For your information, Bangka Island is located on the middle between Singapore and Jakarta. If you fly from Singapore to Jakarta, your flight will fly above the Bangka Island and it is on the middle of the flight time.

It is well known with its name as Muntok White Pepper.

Before I listen to this video, I have knowledge that Bangka Island was the producer of most pepper in East Asia during the Dutch colonial in East Asia. Until know, Bangka Island is still producing pepper even though it is not the most producer anymore. I was surprised to know that Banten was the most producer of pepper, 4,500 tons out of 6,000 tons of pepper exported from East Asia into Europe, in the 17th century. My question is: if Banten was the most pepper producer at that time, why now there is no pepper produced by Banten at all anymore.
