She was my Elphaba on Broadway. Tremendous! Love her!
@matthewhines97872 жыл бұрын
Her voice is so technically perfect and precise. I know it's not everyone's favorite, but seriously I wish my voice had that kind of discipline and control. It's so clean and natural. No, she doesn't do any real riffs or improvisations, but I can always still tell it's her voice.

THOSE NOTES AT THE END GIVE ME CHILLS E V E R Y T I M E
@ratonadebiblioteca987 жыл бұрын
Where's that high note everyone talks about? Well, not everyone, but Seth Rudetsky said that in the video he did with Mandy Gonzalez and I've been watching performance after performance of this song and I haven't found it yet.
@michellelambe48455 жыл бұрын
It's the low note he mentioned, he changed it so it ended on a high note. That note, however, is not in this performance. SJB changed it to segway into Defying Gravity!

Friggin amazing....it's too bad Idina got more of the spotlight with this role. Stephanie's voice is far more incredible.
@pabloluisperez52656 жыл бұрын
One1Critic I think SJB got a better role to portray as Liza with Hugh Jackman in The Boy from Oz & she got to record the soundtrack :) She should have won the Tony instead of Idina though.
@itsactor246014 жыл бұрын
No need to put Idina down in order to lift Stephanie up. Idina still made Elphaba what the role is today so deserves at least some respect - even if her voice isn’t to your taste. You also don’t win a Tony Award if your performance was not good. Stephanie is incredibly talented but I saw Idina in Wicked and can confirm her voice sounds 100 times better live than it does on bootlegs. She blew the roof off.
@1amSam3 жыл бұрын
Well it was written fir Stephanie they just wanted a big name to try to make the show successful and since Indian just finished rent they chose her

yea i was just surprised. I'm not used to hearing any imperfections in her voice! haha And yea that's probably what it was. The only other time I saw something like that was when I saw her in Drood the day of the Newtown shootings and she cried during Writing on the Wall. It was really surreal.

she just needed a breather and she probably acted it off really well but an 8:30 min sing and tap number is exhausting so i can totally understand!

No, SJB was Elphaba in the workshops, but they wanted a bigger name to headline the show, so they chose Idina who was previously well known for doing Rent.

Dude, chill out. Videos, especially bad quality vids like this, merely shows off the quality of the production. Vids like this will never stop people from going to see the live performance, it makes me just wanna see it more, knowing what I'm missing.

i immensely thank this person for recording this performance, even though its not the best quality. for a person like me, who lives down in florida and does not have an adequate income to go up to new york and see the show myself, i thank everyone who risks recording during shows. broadway theatre has become an immense part of my life, even though i havent even seen one show live. without people like this uploader, i dont know what i would do.
@jakerson18112 жыл бұрын
If the theater doesn't allow taping or recording of the performance (and I don't know any theaters at any level that do let alone a Broadway house), why do you think those rules don"t apply to you??? The usher should have kicked your ass out. Do you think the brightness from your phone didn't bother or distract anyone else? I hate people like you. Grow the hell up. And it's not like you got a decent video out of it anyway. The show is great but this video is absolute crap.
@NYConnor12 жыл бұрын
I also didn't appreciate your statement that B'way performers shout... I am a Musical Theatre major and I certainly do not shout-sing. I understand the importance of vocal musicality and I'm a contemporary singer by trade. I have the tools and recipes to sing many other styles- that's just where I connect most with music. I apologize for any disrespect, I just don't believe that you are correct in that statement..
@NYConnor12 жыл бұрын
It's a style. She is not shouting- she is belting mid-larynx. As for the "weak and breathless" sound you're referring to, that has a lot more to do with audio quality than her vocal abilities. (This is also why you have trouble understanding her- SJB has awesome diction.) I really suggest that you watch another video of her doing this and consider reevauating your opinion. I make all of these statements with all due respect. =)

Why would they have to sing to prove her point? she wasnt comparing her singing to that of SJB, she was just making an observation. One that is legitimate and i can hear, as a musical theater major.
