I had a customer in the country that had a rabbit problem. I built six of these baited with Timothy Grass and every trap caught a rabbit every day for two weeks. These are awesome. The more you catch the easier it works because all they smell is the bait and other rabbits. I also built one a little bigger all around for skunks. They can’t lift their tail so they can’t spray.

I can't get the treadle wire to trip. I put a broom handle in there and really have to push down. - it just won't release the wood door. I have tried every possible configuration of the wire. Very frustrating. The door lock wire works fine, all the other parts work fine, but that trip wire just will not work.
@garyknepper45462 жыл бұрын
I’ve built these traps for years. I bend the trigger wire forward a half inch or so. Then when setting the trap you rotate the pedal forward and just let the door rest on top of the 1/2 inch bend you put in the trigger wire. This makes it easier to set than putting the trigger in the bottom of the door in that hole. Also to fasten the door at the top I drill a hole on each side of the trap and put a screw through the hole and screw it in to the door on each side of the trap. Drill the hole in the trap slightly larger than the screw so the door can swing freely and easily. Of course you don’t screw the screws down tight. Leave them a little loose so the door can swing freely. Nice video.

I have been trying for years to reach out to my dad to provide habitat for quail and rabbits. It's hard to change people. He sees weeds growing and he has to mow! Finally he has been talking about setting aside some land for wildlife. He even put several truckloads of limbs, brush on the property and plans to cut down on mowing.

Wish you had spent time on the treadle and showed how to install it and how it works. Took me forever to finally understand but I had to build it first. Anyway, box is built, not sure that the trip wire is going to work yet, but we will see. Thanks for the video - this does look like the best trap out there that I have seen. I bought a Havaheart wire one but the rabbits won't go near it. I hope this one works!

I made 2 of these exactly as described and have now caught 6 rabbits and 1 squirrel in one week. Thanks, John Wooding! The one modification I plan on making for the next build is an extra inch on the wire for the door lock. For me it came up a little short after bending into shape, leaving only short stubs sticking out the sides of the box. I used a pile of Brussels sprouts, apples, romaine lettuce and carrots (all chopped, of course) as bait at the back of the box. The placement seems to be fairly critical. Mine were placed in front of the holes the rabbits had dug under the fence, along their usual paths. It's too early to tell for sure but I think my catch rate is dropping off as we get further into Spring.
@hokanut3 жыл бұрын
As long as the door is too long to swing open and hits the floor of the trap when it closes the locking wire isn't needed. I built this box and it's a winner.

I'm thinkin' the door lock prevents another varmint from pushing in and opening the door.

Evictor Strobe Lights are 100% effective at EVICTING Squirrels from an attic or crawl space. After Evictor Strobe Light installation, Squirrels leave within 3 days, taking babies with them. 175,000 Candlepower is to much for Squirrels or Roof Rats or Norway Rats, or Raccoons to handle. Area MUST be TOTALLY DARK for success.

Box traps (cage traps) baited with peanut butter are by far the most sensible choice. But don’t feel sorry for them and let them go less than two miles from your home or they’ll be back in time for dinner.

The reason squirrels are now such a huge problem is because all the squirrel predators are either gone or greatly depleted because of humans and that is having a very negative effect on our bio-diversity. The story below is still online. 2016-12-14 Squirrely problem: Bushy-tailed bandits repeated cause of power outages www.seacoastonline.com/news/20161214/squirrely-problem-bushy-tailed-bandits-repeated-cause-of-power-outages I’m pretty sure this story could have been done in just about any small town in the US but most reporters are too lazy to do this much research and there is no compelling reason for electric company workers to volunteer this information because repairing squirrel damage is a huge source of income to them. It is now estimated there are now over 500 million grey squirrels in this country and they are now suspected of having a role in the transmission of lyme disease !!! My solution is below. I used to use the Havahart 1030 but I have upgraded to the 1083 and now have 3 of them. It only has 1 door which makes it much shorter and I thus need a much smaller tropical fish tank to drown them in. This is the most humane way I have found to dispose of grey squirrels and I try and keep the water reasonably clean. The smaller tank uses less water. But most importantly 1-door traps are also easier to bait because the squirrel can only enter from 1 direction so the bait only needs to be behind the walk-on platform. You don’t have to “balance” the mechanism the bait sits on, so the 1083 is also a much faster trap to bait. Squirrels hunt for food by smell and birds hunt for food via their eyes and you need to consider that when baiting a trap or birds will steal a high percentage of food. I use peanut butter on a 1″ x 1″ X 5″ scrap of wood and some of the peanut butter is facing down so the birds can’t see it but the squirrels can still smell it. “Havahart 1083 Easy Set One-Door Cage Trap for Squirrels and Small Rabbits” This trap cost me approx $33 but it is a much better solution for grey squirrels. Squirrels are becoming a major problem in this country and part of the problem is a lunatic fringe that insists on feeding & protecting rodents that happen to look a little cuter than rats. Both of my neighbors have had squirrels invade their attics and sustained damage to their homes. I have thus trapped and killed 223 squirrels on my small property since June-2014 and we still have plenty more to replace them. I then feed the carcass to the fox and hawks in a nearby woods. Win-Win I like to think this causes predators/scavengers to hunt rabbits and other small game less frequently. At night, I place mouse traps inside the closed 1083 so that only mice can get into them. I was surprised to discover a mouse infestation that I was completely unaware of. The first 8 days I did this, I caught 14 mice. email me with questions Bill Z devilsadvacat at gmail dot com ..
