I used this technique on a TR6 that I am working on. Fortunate for me, I had the block out of the car and on an engine stand. After flushing it, I rotated it upside down and you wouldn't believer the additional crud that I got out of it. I kept on flushing and rotating it until it ran clear.

Thanks for the info, guys . I'm trying to do up a pair of 175 cd -1 myself in aussie Holden FB 1960. Mine look exactly like yours with the mechanical chokes. Hopefully, I'll get the same results Cheers again for the great info Cheers, Rob 🍻

Is clr acidic? Does it need neutralising afterwards?
@DAT240Z72Ай бұрын
Evapo-rust makes a product specific for cooling systems. The manufacturer of CLR warns not to use CLR on any metals except chrome or stainless steel. CLR does not create a rust protective coating like evaporation-rust, metal blast….. CLR on metal will actually re-start the rust process making it worse.

Hi Thanks for the answer my 93 year old neighbour and pal is currently building one as I am in my garage I will then get the grand kids to build one It will introduce them to soldering and some electronics I have a Mk 11 Jag and and E type I think the faulty ground on the Mk 11 caused the stabilizer to fail I have a new ground strap and a better negative battery lead and the car is now more reliable starting Cheers Mike Mississauga

Hi I am trying to do this but I dont understand som things My units don't have the metalicstrip around the outer perimeter of the inside of the unit so I dont know how to bring things to ground Also what do you mean by the trace on the right side Is that a strip of solder that you placed Thanks Hope you get to see this Mike Mississauga
@WegsGarage2 ай бұрын
Not sure if some boards are different. There is a ground somewhere, so if you have a meter, try to figure out using continuity where the connection is made to the metal case. If you can't find it, you can always run a wire to the case itself from ground on the regulator..

Hi, Ive just fitted this kit from Moss and was confused by the additional nut and bolt in the kit. The extra part is installed below the metal plate acting as a stop .....to stop the plate turning too far and becomming unclipped....very important.

I’m doing the same thing on my TR3 at the moment. I’m wondering why you didn’t also do an access panel on the opposing side for the valve setting lever. How are you planning on making adjustments?

In German car culture we dislike hylomar in many areas. It can create many problems trough making its way into the inside of whatever is sealed underneath it. I saw a few motors blew up cause oil or water filters got blocked. Then boom 😅 But for the timing belt I don’t see much of a problem as long as you apply it carefully 👍🏽

I've only had a TR4 transmission out once. And that was ages ago on a parts car. So I don't recall it being all that bad. The transmission on my Datsun 620 pickup on the other hand, took well over 12 hours to change the clutch on. Tight. Nonetheless, it doesn't look like fun. I'll find out on my 72 TR6 I suppose. :)

FYI - in the 8 years owning my ‘65 TR4A, the temp gauge always sits around the “3/4” point when warmed up. It’s never moved hotter than that point, even in stop & go traffic.

Would this work for a 65 TR4A? Mine doesn’t have the PCV valve and is just vented with a hose that goes below the engine block near the frame.
@WegsGarage4 ай бұрын
My understanding is if you have the tube and hose out of the block, you do not need to worry about this. You can just vent the valve cover with a regular breather.
@royals374 ай бұрын
@@WegsGarage The hose I have comes off the valve cover vent and goes under the car. The blow by fumes smell bad. The block vent is closed with a bolt. It would be good if you could vent the blow by directly into the exhaust system.

The best sealer I've used is called "The Right Stuff" available at your favorite AP Store. Racers use it. Last Trans rebuild I did is staying very dry. (they all leak some but mine is only wet and very few drops of the cardboard under the car.) It's expensive but so is your time if you have to pull the transmission again.

On the machines where I've had weeping through the bolts (or in the case of two stroke engines that can suck air through the intake manifold bolts), I put a dab of Yamabond on the threads before I screw the bolt in and that has always worked well for me. It doesn't take much - a little goes a long way. Good luck with the fix!
