And to think - we let all this mechanical excellence go when we went digital. It's kind of a crime. Thank heaven there are still people keeping this stuff alive.

This would have been among the great Bond songs and remembered for long if it was chosen. It deserved it. I've listened to this many times. Thank you and congratulations on a beautiful song.

I'm just waiting for some hipster knob to come along and say "My vinyl copy of this sounds better!". Idiots don't even realize that their vinyl copy was sourced from this very master tape. Nowadays, the master tape will be converted to a digital file, and then that lacquer is made from that file. Then you'll have hipsters claiming that their vinyl copy sounds better than the same track on Compact Disc. It's hilarious.

Not to mention vinyl has its dynamic range squashed, (softer sounds made louder above the noise floor of the vinyl and louder portions reduced to fit within the nature of the final vinyl production) as well as significantly modified for cutting the lacquer knocking siblilance if present. Digital recordings none of that is necessary (just don't peak over zero) that's the only rule LOL.

Beautiful machine. Sound is second to none. It even sounds good though my little phone speaker. The snare drum is nice and snappy, and the upright bass sounds awesome. Piano sounds beautiful, too. Best audio format, period.

Why does it run so fast?
@bosmanragga51
@bosmanragga51 7 жыл бұрын
Is it! So its opposite to when you are recording? You know when recording: Faster (Hi-Speed Dubbing) will give you poorer (lower quality sound) than recording at slower and normal playback speed

more higher speed ..less good low frequencies..this is problem..so the master tape after the mix was setled on 36in.p.m..higher was not good..althoug speed like 19inpm is super in all spectrum,,even 9..but 36 was standart in studio for master tape for machines like this

+Evzen Tikovsky ... there is no such thing as "36in.pm", nor "19inpm" -- the two main speeds in professional tape recording are 30ips (inches per second) and 15ips. This machine in the video is running at 30ips, which is pretty standard for recordings like jazz and classical. At 30ips, depending on the tape formula, there is virtually no EQ curve or emphasis onto the final recorded tape. It is, essentially, it's highest fidelity. Having said that, using 15ips has its advantages such as a slight low end bump in frequencies, which can give the final tape "master" recording a slightly heavier or solid feel. It's not much of a bump in frequencies, but it's there, and is usually referred to as a "head bump". Also, not as much tape is used up in the process, obviously.

Is the sound noise normal with optical soundtrack ? It sounds almost like surface noice on a vinyl record. Just want to know as i just started collecting 35mm movie trailers and may eventually move to complete feature film.

Depends on the type of track. Older movies with mono Academy tracks can be pretty noisy. Later films with Dolby A noise reduction (which are usually also Stereo Variable Area) much less so. Movies from the 90s onward with Dolby SR are damn near silent.

Nice machine. I got a broken 1/4" A820 last year. It took me half a month to make it work. Now I am in the process to add 1/2" capability to it. What is your HF/recording amp? 712/713 or 811/813?

Out of all the songs for Quantum of Solace, this is my personal favorite. I really do not know what EON were thinking, and the fact that they had three great songs to choose from; this song, Eva Almer's Forever and Shirley Bassey's No Good About Goodbye and they decided to go for Another Way To Die is just depressing. Thankfully EON didn't screw it up with Skyfall.

This song has a Mediterranean flair, so it makes me think that Bond will be back in Spain, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, or w/e, kicking ass and getting the babes as usual!!!
