Hey coach Jason! First and foremost, thank you for this. At the end when you mentioned people being at a disadvantage if I want to upper body wrestle, is there any particular opening I can do to make sure I get to upper body wrestling while staying in good defense? I'm assuming it's pushing forward, trying to punch an underhook?

I'm considering doing wrestling in high school, but I live an hour or so away from my school. I'm also in marching band, and we have a lot of practices. I've been in a small school my whole life, and I chose a massive school for high school. I really want to build muscle and play a sport my freshman year, and I'm going to preseason wrestling practice today. The only problem is that I've never played before, and i have marching band the same day. I have to skip half of my GRADED marching band practice just to go wrestling. I don't know if wrestlings for me, especially with the huge change in school size, harder schoolwork, learning a completely new instrument in band, and trying to balance homelife when I get home at 5 even without wrestling or band practice.

In regards to clasping, what if both wrestlers are standing or in neutral or behind?

If you can find a throw, lock, strike trap, etc in the 108 ; you can find it in Tui shou. Imagine choreographing wrestling slipped under hooks, body locks, over under drills, arm drags, etc into a form which takes about twenty minutes to complete when performed at a slower, methodical pace, and those kicks in the form make a lot more sense from the Tui shou range. One controls the limbs and ‘takes control’ of the opponents Dan tien, then kick to takedown, or throw etc. Great post! Tui shou in a remote Chinese village where throws to brick or other hard surfaces are the norm, really challenges the paradigm of what most people think or expect from this art.

I used to do it like that but once a heavier guy kinda sprawled awkwardly i seriously damaged my neck, i was folded in half. Worst experience hurt for 2 months. Then i started rolling on my shoulderblades which could land me on bottom side control in mma if i dont get the angle well, but it's safer at least

Ismael musakaev is a master of this. People always point out how his stance is so peculiar because his arms are curled up but it's so he could hand fight comfortably to the inside and gives a bit of bonus to also not getting underhooked

Anything you would recommend doing alone. I would like to be a state champ, but i started wrestling very late in 10th grade. All advice is appreciated, thank you.

I am new to the technicalities of wrestling. The guy in white shirt has control of the black shirt. From this position/ move is it possible for the black shirt to score a pinfall in a match if the white shirt technique is bad and rolls on his shoulders, even tho white shirt has control of black shirt, black shirt would be applying downward pressure on white shirt's shoulders, so would this be a pinfall win for black? Another way to ask my question is control necessary to score a pinfall, or can a pinfall be scored while not having control of your opponent?

Wrestling is a beautiful sport. But the Olympic rules are different. This video shows "Folkstyle" wrestling, which is the main style done in America. In the Olympics they do "freestyle" and "greco roman". You should search for rules videos for them, as they are different rulesets. Enjoy!
