Cool! I remember when those first came out. Here in the U.S. they were promoted heavily via commercials on Saturday mornings when the cartoons aired. Indeed they were marketed to the Hot Wheels fans. While they were fast….really fast….what was their downfall were several things. First, the rear bumper took away from the sleek lines of the cars. Though the license plate was a fun gimmick so the bumpers could be overlooked. Second….the paint jobs were way too over the top even for the kids they were aimed at. I recall looking at the car displays at Kay Bee Toys and seeing a bright red Matchbox Ferrari and a metallic purple Hot Wheels Boss Mustang hanging next to a Fast111s fantasy vehicle that looked like my grandmother’s kitchen wallpaper. Too crazy is not a good thing. Third….while they offered board games, belt buckles, and even model kits….they did not offer multi car gift packs, play sets, or a good track system. The one track set they released towards the end was a primitive single loop straight line set with no launch system. (You clamped the track to a chair or counter and aimed-it downward) They may have released another track set, but nothing noteworthy nor with the ability to expand on to. They did however offer a car customizing set. It contained a solidly painted vehicle that came with a peel and stick decal set that included multiple license plates and various designs. They also released a few really interesting models….a 1980 Mustang Fox Body (first one in diecast) a pair of big rig drag trucks (they were really cool!), and the Outlaw you mentioned here was based on a concept Trans Am sport wagon that was being studied at that time. Not long after Kenner dropped the line, Universal Toys, who produced the cars for Kenner, was bought by Matchbox (Universal was making Matchbox models for them for a time preceding) and many of the Fast111s castings were incorporated into the Matchbox line. This was also a reason why Kenner dropped Fast111s. Interesting to note….the Mustang Cobra mold was one of the original Kenner cars that quickly reappeared as a Matchbox model. Matchbox was eventually bought by Mattel and that same Mustang casting again appeared as a Hot Wheels car.

The only now long gone model company that made vintage Rolls-Royce automobiles in scale. There were a lot of them, really nice but I totally didn't get why there would be "KLM" on one them unless it was a VIP ride to the airport or something maybe a company car, who knows.

Enjoyed the video. I just found one of these in a thrift shop and got so excited! It reminded me of my brilliant father. I paid $1.00 for it and it's my best buy of the year. Anyway, my father was and Advanced Stylist for Ford Lincoln Mercury throughout the 1950's and worked in their Top Secret Dream Room cars and he designed the future cars or what they thought the future was. He worked on the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser, Lincoln Futura, Ford Fairlane and others. My dad's boss was George Walker who designed the first 1955 Thunderbird and his immediate supervisor was Alex Tremulis who was the chief stylist before his Ford days on the Tucker automobile that the movie starring Jeff Bridges was about. Alex is portrayed in the film as the young soldier who comes to visit Preston Tucker and Tucker hires him as his designer. Alex was also the co-designer of the famous Auburn Cord. Alex and my dad hung out together and all heads turned in Michigan when these two guys entered a restaurant. My dad was a WWII combat veteran just like Alex and my father was a Spec5 Engineer in the 69th Infantry Division. My father left Ford in 1958 and went over to Chrysler to their Missile Program and worked on the Redstone Rockets which later carried John Glenn in orbit around the Earth. The Friendship 7. My dad was an unsung hero behind the scenes, but his drawings and plans speak for themselves, and he was part of the greatest generation. He made it all the way to age of 94 and design directed four major companies in his career. He was always a car guy for sure from a very young age and his first car was the Lincoln Zephyr.
