Thank you for posting this touch of Stedman Doubles. It’s surprisingly difficult to find on KZbin in a version where you can see all the bells’ ropes!

Hello! As a non-campanologist just starting to look into it would you mind helping me out with a question? Stedman doubles uses five bells - so why are there six ringers and six bells in the row every time I find it on KZbin? Many thanks!

@@jenesuispassanslavoir7698 one bell, the tenor, rings in 6th place all the time, this is called covering, while the other five bells ring Stedman. It is normal to ring odd-bell methods - doubles (5 bells), triples (7 bells), caters (9 bells), and cinques (11 bells) - with a covering bell.

Beautiful, one of the best falls I've ever heard, I love to hear a good well struck falll in peal unfortunately at my tower we don't have enough experienced ringers to ring down in peal, we have a lot of learners at the moment so most of the time we get them down in 3s (we have 8 bells), we'll done everyone here.

Yes, the first couple are the footbridge at the north end of Herbert Street.

both these bells and st sillas are john taylor st judes are john taylor only bells 1 to 4 the rest gillett and johnson hung on 2 tiers

6 bells treble is john taylor 2nd is samuel smith 3rd is william oldfield 4th and 5th unknown and tenor 14cwts thomas mears hung on 2 tiers

Not necessarily. Her striking is accurate, which is the main thing. The ringer on the tenor is tall, so catching the Sally higher makes it more comfortable, it doesn't effect ringing in any way

It's not really like Shipley. Mytton were far worse. There is more unguided rope, the bells have wheels that are a lot larger than a 12cwt six should have, the bells have big, heavy timber stocks and none of the bells are "tucked up"-all of the weight is well below the bottom of the gudgeons so they need to be ring more like an 18-20cwt six would be rung.

in the past the parade consisted of everything the area produced such as industrial and agricultural products. - now its basically a parade of state dependent single mums, which i guess is still a reflection of the towns output.

these bells were cast almost at the same year as chesterfeild\s bells which are 10 bells cast by mears and stainbank tenor 25-1-5cwts and a scantus bell by whitechapel
