The pilot hole is helpful, but in my experience of being a carpenter, I hit the nail end to blunt, then hammer home,

All these people in the comments who have no idea what a diamond blade is. If you you did, you would know that a "diamond" blade has no cutting ability other than on stone. If you touch it to anything else, all you get a bit of a burn from friction. It is impossible to cut anything. Won't even cut paper. You can lightly run your finger along the blade when it is spinning. Diamond Blades are totally smooth. Don't believe me? Get a grinder and a diamond blade and start it up. The only danger to your health is the dust. The dust will give you lung cancer.

I'm doing some picture rail for a friend. The picture rail she got was like yours but the profile is slightly different where the big bulge finshes is turns back up again sharply by just a few mm before squaring off the last 5mm. That bit that turns up with a sharp angle is a pain because when I tried to fit the scribe to the other rail the sharp angle doesn't like to slot nicely on top of the other rail, so I don't know if I'm just doing something wrong but if I scribe too tight I end up tearing the wood as it's just too thin, or I cut a small section out of the top side bulge of the other rail for the sharp profile of the scribe to fit onto the other bulge. I got it to look OK but it just seems a bit odd. Hard to describe but I'm sure you know what I mean. Thanks for the upload

why are you holding a brick when you haven't even spread a bed yet? sometimes it's even perped up ready, but still no bed!, and not once did you level across the brick. Why are so many bricks bumped out for such a tiny corner?
