In any partnership one person always contributes more than the other or at least thinks that. Are partnerships doomed to fail at some point? It seems normal.

The blunt truth is that John Oates got where he is in life because of Hall's talent. He’s a nice guy, but he needs to be realistic.

Daryl being the straw that stirred the operation seem to always be regretting the partnership mentally and monetary. John always the team player. Probably needed sorted out between these two long ago. John ends up being the target when Daryl gets pissy

Yes, he can be rude and full of himself. But, he was also the talented one.

As to vinyl and limitations where quiet songs were put at the end : not always true . Take Genesis Wind and Wuthering or And then there were three or Trick of the tail : all clock over 50 minutes and not quiet songs at the end. And those are 70's records that sound good.

Hey. They both doing music. Great combo in their TIME. TIME moves on. I loved watching Darryl's house and listening. We all have favourite songs. For me Beanie G and the Rose Tattoo with Todd Rundgren on lead and the hawaian crew,especially the drummer +( so so tight) just blew me away. Apart from Jimi H that ROX. Cheers don't be sad. Feel privileged to live that.

Hall made the group relevant. His vocals made it work. Oates could have been replaced by anyone honestly.

John wrote many of the hits. Can't go for that, Maneater, Sara's Smile and You make my dreams come true, many more. He also sang lead on many songs.
@ozjumpermann16102 күн бұрын
That’s really true. Hall had the voice, the stage presence, and the songwriting talent. When you saw them in concert, John Oates seemed more like a member of the band. The few times he tried to sing lead were not good. He was a nice guy, but Hall was the talented one.

I'm from the very, very far south (South Africa) 😂. I'm a massive Tony Joe White fan. His personally autographed CD is one of my most prized possessions (and I believe I have Jody to thank for that autographed CD). I call Tony Joe "Elvis with talent".

I started looking at it as an option after retiring from the IT world, but it is just not the same now. Not worth the price you pay. Maybe that's why most new music sucks. Just not attracting or recognizing the greatest musical minds anymore.

I saw the Dessert band from the stage I worked at in Wheeling WV at Jamboree USA. I met Jorgensen right before the show. He came into our tech hangout room looking to make a phone call to LA to have some one pick his gear up when they flew back. That was the show where Brad Paisley was on the show as a teen because we had a variety show which featured local talent and then headliner and it was broadcast live on radio every Saturday night. I was one of the audio engineers in that theatre .John shoed Brad his rig and stuff. Brad was one of the local openers. There is a video out about that night with John and Brad now that they have befriended in the big business. Cool stuff. I love that music. I'm a musician and played mostly rock as kids do growing up and once I got into country things changed and my mind expanded. I was playing in a southern band when this show happened and I was maybe 30 years old. I wouldn't change a thing. I'm still busy though and these videos give me chance to reflect on my own life. Thank you.

Chris I read your book “Time in Between” a couple years ago. What a great read! I was a little too young to have experienced your career but finally caught on with Manassas. That dbl LP was gold for me. I grew up with horses too, where I grew up a bike was useless…

much respect for John Oates...successful marriage and taking care of his kids unlike daryl Hall not supporting his biological son from what I have read.
@cheyenne77248 күн бұрын
He financially supported his son regardless of a close relationship or not. It's a personal matter it's not our business. John blew his first marriage to a Ford model because he was irresponsible with money and became broke. Lost his marriage because of it. He was not a saint

Just listening to John explain his "split" with Daryl: He handles this as graciously, philosophically and "common-sensically" as I would imagine the topic can be handled. Good on him.
