The good old days when a 5 goal margin could be fun to watch. Now I struggle to watch a game even if it's close (like STK vs GC or Melbourne vs Port this year)

Wonderful player. Amazed he made it to 300 games throwing his body around like he did. I remember Gerard Healy saying he had "no self preservation instinct whatsoever" while commentating. Spot on.

A great video celebrating one of the best players of all time. Unfortunately, he later became one of the worst coaches of all time.

Announcement came over PA at half time for bus drivers to return to their busses for Collingwood supporters wanting to leave.

At the end of the game the 'blue coats' were carrying the match ball off ; friend knocked the ball out of their grasps- and sprinted - as yours truely scooped it up (and sprinted) !! 19 yo ! Ridiculous memory of an otherwise terrible game....

It makes such a difference when you have a gun forward who can take contested mark, and was also an accurate kick.

What's clear is Essendon's skill in this match. No backwards passing. Just precision passes and an excellent team game. Really enjoyable to watch. I don't enjoy the modern game as much. Players are greedy, AFL is greedy, and the game resembles basketball.

The 84/85 squads were the best Essendon teams I have ever seen.Obviously the Dick Reynolds led sides were really good but I never saw them

Hird had the gift for naturally giving himself space. Neil Daniher was another. I was at the game in 1980 when he was thrown into the forward line in the last 15 minutes of the final quarter and literally stole a win over Carlton. When the siren went, there wasn't a sound as supporters from both sides were shocked in disbelief. Standing 6'3', he could have been anything. His career was cut short, and then his life. Some people just can't cut a break.

Correct, the only two Essendon v Fremantle games that have ever been decided by one point are Bombers victories at the MCG on a Sunday afternoon with scores 90-89, how freaky is that!!!
